The 10 Best Netflix Movies To Watch With Your Boyfriend

Share:

Finding what to watch on Netflix is sometimes a task that lasts as long as the eventual movie itself. It’s hard to find something you want to watch, but finding something both you and your boyfriend/girlfriend want to watch is even harder. Don’t worry, though, I’ve got you covered. Here are the ten best Netflix original films to watch with your boyfriend right now that you’ll both enjoy.

The list is ranked solely based on the movies’ respective IMDb scores, not on my personal preferences. Let’s dig in!

Honorable mention: Eli (2019)

IMDb score: 5.8/10

What it’s about: A boy with an auto-immune disorder receives treatment regularly at his home. However, he soon realizes that the house they’re staying in might not be safe – not from vandals or burglars, but something much more sinister. Is Eli just experiencing the side effects of his treatment, or is there something bigger – something worse – at hand?

Why you should watch it: Romantic date nights aren’t usually followed by watching a mysterious horror flick – but if you’re like my better half and myself, you’d rather watch a horror flick than a lovey-dovey tear-jerker. Ergo, I’m giving you one of the coolest Netflix original horror movies that will likely have you question your views on having kids in the future…

10. ‘The Lovebirds’ (2020)

IMDb score: 6.1/10

What it’s about: Jibran and Leilani – a young couple – have their relationship and fate intrinsically connected after unintentionally – and unwillingly – being pulled into a murder mystery. They have to find the killer to clear their names, but a hilarious set of circumstances seems to prevent them at every step they take. Can they – or their relationship – survive until morning?

Why you should watch it: I always like these action/crime/mystery comedy movies, but I genuinely enjoyed ‘The Lovebirds’ due to Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani’s performance and delivery. It really shows how an unorthodox moment can define a relationship, but above everything else, the movie is just fun to watch.

9. ‘Holidate’ (2020)

IMDb score: 6.1/10

What it’s about: Two total strangers agree to act as each other’s dates during holiday events with friends and family. What starts as a platonic relationship out of convenience changes when both of them secretly start developing feelings for each other.

Why you should watch it: ‘Holidate’ is primarily a Christmas movie, but it’s actually fun to watch even when it isn’t Christmas because the two attend events together before and after Christmas, too.

The story isn’t really that deep, and you basically know what will happen in the end from the jump, but it’s simply a fun, light, entertaining romantic movie that will absolutely work for a date night with your better half.

8. ‘Metal Lords’ (2022)

IMDb score: 6.7/10

What it’s about: Two friends that go to high school together and love metal music try to form a heavy metal band for a Battle of the Bands competition. They are joined by an unorthodox musician for the genre – a young cellist. Will the trio come together or crumble under pressure?

Why you should watch it: If your man (or both of you) is a fan of 80s rock and metal, and you’re in the mood for a light-hearted, goofy, teenage comedy – this is an awesome flick for you to watch. It’s funny, the music is awesome, and you get to hear all those awesome rock and metal hits in a totally new vibe. I enjoyed to humor, too, so perhaps you will, too!

7. ‘Enola Holmes 2’ (2022)

IMDb score: 6.8/10

What it’s about: After the events of the first movie, Enola Holmes becomes a detective-for-hire, and she takes on her very first case of a missing girl. As Enola follows clues to finding the girl, she finds herself deep in a rabbit hole of conspiracy and danger that only grows larger and ventures deeper. She needs all the help she can get to unravel this one – including her brother, Sherlock.

Why you should watch it: I’ve put the sequel on the list instead of the first one for a couple of reasons. One, it’s simply a better movie than the first one. Two, Henry Cavill’s Sherlock Holmes is more featured in the film, and three, Millie Bobby Brown is a bit older, and a bit more mature as Enola Holmes, making her a more enjoyable, less-annoying character, in my opinion.

Whatever the case may be, I’m sure you and your boyfriend will enjoy trying to figure out what’s going on as the movie progresses, but overall, it’s just an entertaining film with an all-star cast that’s well worth your time to watch it.

6. ‘Always Be My Maybe’ (2019)

IMDb score: 6.8/10

What it’s about: Sasha and Marcus were high school sweethearts – well, almost, but Marcus ruined their friendship, and they had a major fallout. Now, Sasha is back in town and they reconnect. Marcus wonders if, maybe, they would work as a couple as well as they did as friends, but Sasha is engaged to another guy.  When the engagement is broken off, another ‘maybe’ pops into their minds… but just maybe?

Why you should watch it: Even if you’re not a fan of rom-coms, you have to love the chemistry and energy between Randall Park and Ali Wong. They’re absolutely hilarious at times, and at others, they are incredibly poised and deliver the romantic side of this film to perfection. Also, that Keanu Reeves cameo as Keanu Reeves is something you didn’t know you needed – but you do.

5. ‘Love and Monsters’ (2020)

IMDb score: 6.9/10

What it’s about: An apocalypse came, and monsters of all kinds have plagued the world for seven years now. Finally, it was time for Joel to leave his underground bunker in search of his high school sweetheart. What he finds on his journey –  and at his finish line – is something he could never have expected.

Why you should watch it: I watched this movie with no expectations whatsoever, thinking it would be yet another classic, silly monster movie – but I was wrong. It’s actually quite an awesome film of post-apocalyptic survival, but it’s also insanely funny, witty, and entertaining. Also, Dylan O’Brien delivers the role of a goofy, hapless kid perfectly as he grows into a man throughout the film.

4. ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ (2018)

IMDb score: 7.0/10

What it’s about: A teenage girl writes love letters to the boys she likes or loves, but her sister exposes them to the world without her consent. Now, she struggles with the embarrassment it caused and the toll it took on her social and romantic life.

Why you should watch it: When talking of romantic movies that are also Netflix originals, this movie will likely pop out every time. Netflix had its fair share of fails and flops in this area, but ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ is kind of a good story. It’s sometimes funny, relatable, and sweet, and it doesn’t try to be anything else. A fun movie to watch – especially as a couple!

3. ‘Glass Onion’ (2022)

IMDb score: 7.1/10

What it’s about: The second story in the ‘Knives Out’ franchise takes us to a getaway on a Greek Island where a tech-wiz billionaire, Miles Bron, invited a bunch of influential people, including Detective Blanc. Of course, someone ends up dead, and it’s on Blanc to figure out who the killer is among the invitees.

Why you should watch it: Although the first ‘Knives Out’ film is more critically acclaimed, I honestly found ‘Glass Onion’ to be more entertaining. I mean, both films were rather predictable, but at least ‘Glass Onion’ didn’t try to make itself ‘smarter’ than it truly was. It’s a fun ‘whodunit’ comedy that will certainly entertain you, and give you a few super-loud laughs.

2. ‘The Deepest Breath’ (2023)

IMDb score: 7.7/10

What it’s about: A documentary about Alessia Zecchini, a champion single-breath diver who attempts to set a new freediving record with her safety diver Stephen Keenan – and their fates are forever intertwined by something rather tragic that happens before Alessia’s dive…

Why you should watch it: Who says movie date nights always have to be a romantic film, or a comedy, or a live-action movie at all? If you guys are of an adventurous spirit, love sports, astounding stories of human triumph, and love the sea – you can’t find a more perfect documentary to watch than this one! You’ll thank me later.

1. ‘Marriage Story’ (2019)

IMDb score: 7.9/10

What it’s about: Charlie and Nicole are a married couple whose marriage starts to fall apart. They stay together and work through their differences for the sake of their family in this beautiful, realistic look at marriage.

Why you should watch it: Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson played the roles of their lives, and ‘Marriage Story’ is deservedly so highly praised. It’s a hard pill to swallow at times – especially when you’re watching as a couple – but it will only make you feel closer together and realize that relationships are a sacrifice, but even more so, you are rewarded ten times more.
