Colin Farrell Shares He Wore Prosthetic ‘Penguin Penis’ for His Role in ‘The Penguin’: “It’s got a beak at the end”
The Penguin debuted its first episode to overwhelmingly positive reactions, with some fans even hailing it as “the greatest pilot in TV history.”
A large part of the show’s success is due to Colin Farrell’s outstanding performance as Oz Cobblepot. When Farrell was initially cast for The Batman Part I, fans were skeptical, but the prosthetics and makeup team worked their magic, and now he embodies the role perfectly.
Colin Farrell underwent a dramatic transformation to accurately portray The Penguin, which even included wearing a prosthetic penis for the role.
In a recent interview with People, Farrell discussed the intense makeup process required for his character. He mentioned a scene where Oz Cobblepot is naked (though nothing is visible to the audience), and revealed that makeup artist Mike Marino crafted a “penguin penis” for him to wear.
Marino is so twisted and brilliant. He was like, ‘I made you a penguin penis.’ I said, ‘Really? They’re not even going to see it. I don’t know if I want to walk on set with a penguin penis. No, no, no, dude. It’s detachable, it’s Velcro. It’s got a beak at the end of it.’ So I had a penguin penis.
Farrell also described the bodysuit that helped him physically transform into The Penguin, complete with a hunchback and all the character’s defining features.
That was kind of the anchor and it came up to the chin. And then the bodysuit would go under it. They were nice enough to give me a hump as well.
It seems the audience won’t get to fully appreciate the incredible detail the makeup and prosthetics team put into replicating Oz’s appearance, but at least we know the effort was there, right?
