Does Sanji Have Future Sight in One Piece? Confirmed

The infamous One Piece franchise boasts a plethora of fascinating characters and loveable protagonists, each of which flaunts unique abilities thanks to using Haki or Devil Fruit powers – or some classic combat and strategy skills! Sanji has been surrounded by questions for quite some time, many of which have led to some rather interesting One Piece theories, but his special abilities in battle still leave anime lovers wondering if Sanji has Future Sight in One Piece.

Sanji may have Future Sight in One Piece, primarily based on his ability to “see into the future” in certain forms as well as the information provided by the new One Piece Vivre Card Databook. That being said, it has not been confirmed since Sanji may be using a highly Advanced form of Observation Haki, still set to obtain Future Sight in later One Piece episodes.

Although Sanji’s ability to see into the future is still surrounded by debate among fans, there is substantial evidence to show that he can predict certain events – based on either his Observation Haki or through having achieved Future Sight. Sanji in One Piece

Sanji, also known as “Black Leg” and formally referred to as “Vinsmoke Sanji”, is the cook on the Straw hat Pirates crew, as well as the third strongest member of the crew following Luffy and Zoro. He was the fourth member of the Straw Hat Pirates, initially joining the Straw Hat Pirates at the end of the Baratie Arc.

He is also one of the Senior Officers of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet – plus, Sanji is a former prince of the Germa Kingdom, being the third son of the Vinsmoke family. However, Sanji has chosen to disown his biological family on two separate occasions, originally in his youth and once again as an adult, and his dream is to find the rumored chef’s paradise “All Blue”, making him a perfect addition to Luffy’s team of allies.

Does Sanji Have Future Sight in One Piece?

Future Sight regards the ability to see upcoming events and use this information in order to gain an advantage. In the One Piece universe, characters can use Future Sight to gain a strategic upper hand in battle, avoid dire circumstances, dodge opponents’ attacks, and much more – the possibilities are really endless depending on this ability’s usage as well as the user’s character.

Sanji would make the perfect Future Sight user in theory, as he has a relatively calm and collected personality topped with exceptional skills on an everyday basis. The idea of Sanji either having or developing Future Sight is nothing new to One Piece fans, and many fans have believed it’s only a matter of time before it’ll be confirmed or officially revealed.

Sanji has Advanced Observation Haki

Sanji specializes in the power of Observation Haki and is very well-trained in this ability, confirmed by One Piece’s author, Eiichiro Oda. It’s believed that this skill was initially awakened during Sanji’s fight against Ivankov as well as his minions and allies, which took place sometime during the two-year timeskip.

According to the One Piece Wiki, Observation Haki (also known as Color of Observation or “Kenbunshoku Haki”) can be described as follows:

“Kenbunshoku Haki is a form of Haki that grants the user a sixth sense that allows them to sense the presence, strength, and emotions of others, as well as gain limited precognitive abilities.”

His use of Observation Haki has raised many questions for fans since most believe he only uses his Observation Haki and not Future Sight at all – since these two abilities are relatively similar in their core attributes. Many believe that Sanji has achieved Advanced Observation Haki through discipline and intense training, which is far more powerful than regular Observation Haki.

Quite a few fans believe that Advanced Observation Haki can come in primary forms – such as Precognition, where the user can predict future events, and Sensory, where the user’s movement and basic senses can be enhanced with a sort of ‘time stop’ type of effect. Some examples of Sanji using his Observation Haki are when he saves Chopper from Queen in Onigashima, as well as when he saves Chiffon from Oven in Whole Cake Island.

There may be other variations of Observation Haki once the user has reached its Advanced state as well, all of which will enable the user to perform numerous time-manipulating abilities. While there is a chance Sanji will develop Future Sight officially, many fans believe that he will remain an Advanced Observation Haki user, simply gaining complete mastery over the abilities and different forms involved.

New One Piece Vivre Card Databook

The new One Piece Vivre Card Databook came with a new take on Sanji’s powers, with a few indications that he could actually be using Future Sight right under our noses – or, at least on the verge of acquiring this ability. According to the information provided, it appears that Sanji can use his powers of Observation Haki in order to see into the future, and the text has been accompanied by an image of Sanji dodging Katakuri’s attack as seen in the images below thanks to OP Fan Page.

Katakuri specializes in Future Sight as well, which makes this instance even more perplexing – how would Sanji dodge Future Sight attacks without having Future Sight himself? While the original One Piece Vivre Card is depicted in this iconic manga and anime title’s native tongue, it can be roughly translated as follows:

“By reading the movement of signs and emotions, you can grasp the surrounding situation and avoid danger. Some people see the future a little ahead due to extraordinary discipline.”

Of course, many fans took this as an official confirmation of Sanji having Future Sight – either choosing to not use it in most cases, or using it without anyone knowing. Still, the majority of One Piece fans believe that Sanji did indeed use his Observation Haki during the same encounter with Katakuri – where even Luffy seemed to be having trouble dodging Katakuri’s attacks.

Most One Piece fans believe that this Vivre Card simply indicates that Sanji is on the brink of achieving Future Sight – or at least hinting that he will somehow obtain Future Sight somewhere down the line. Some fans believe that Sanji’s new Future Sight ability could make its debut during a battle with Queen, or somewhere toward the end of the complete One Piece storyline.

That being said, there are still various shreds of evidence that could indicate Sanji has been using Future Sight for quite some time. Other than the potentially groundbreaking information provided by the new One Piece Vivre Card Databook, Sanji’s Future Sight has not been “officially” confirmed. Although this information can still be considered canon, fans are still unsure if this indicates Sanji currently has Future Sight or is set to obtain Future Sight in upcoming One Piece releases.
