The tenth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, officially titled Fast X, is only weeks away from being released. The newest flick in Universal Pictures’ gigantic franchise is now completed and ready to release in theaters. The movie was recently rated PG-13, which was expected from such a movie. The franchise fans are eager to see what laws of physics the family will break next. Although, after going to space in the latest ninth installment, where could they possibly go next? Bottom of the sea, maybe? What? They haven’t been there before.

The franchise kicked off in 2001, and now, more than twenty years later, the franchise spawned nine movies, one spin-off movie, two short movies, one animated series, and a couple of video games that aren’t really worth mentioning. Fast X is set to be the first part of the planned two-part conclusion of the franchise, and the eleventh installment is set to be the Endgame. With the next installment on its way, there’s a question about which stars will return or debut in this upcoming movie. So let’s see who will be a part of the family, or against it, in Fast X. Dwayne Johson already confirmed he won’t return to the main franchise, but there’s still a chance for a sequel to his 2019’s spin-off Hobbs & Shaw. Although, as time passes, we aren’t really sure anymore that Hobbs & Shaw 2 will ever happen.

RETURNING STARS

fast x returning stars

Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto

Previous movie appearances: The Fast and the Furious, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Los Bandoleros, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, The Fate of the Furious, F9

Vin Diesel debuted as Dominic Toretto in the first movie of the franchise back in 2001. Back then, Diesel didn’t believe in sequels, so he was absent from the first sequel, 2 Fast 2 Furious, but after returning to the franchise, he became one of its owners, and it’s impossible to imagine Fast & Furious without him today. Diesel’s character went from a street racer and criminal stealing DVD Players in Los Angeles to a superhero saving the day from mercenaries and world-ending threats. We can only wait to see his next stunt, but we’re sure his signature white t-shirt (or a tank top, depending on the scene) will remain as clean as ever. Diesel also voiced his character as a special guest star in the animated series Fast & Furious Spy Racers, which aired for six seasons on Netflix.

Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz Toretto

Previous movie appearances: The Fast and the Furious, Los Bandoleros, Fast & Furious, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, The Fate of the Furious, F9

Michelle Rodriguez is one of the franchise’s original stars. She debuted in the franchise’s first movie, back when she didn’t even have a driver’s license. Her character, Letty Ortiz, developed a relationship with Diesel’s Dominic Toretto before she was presumably killed off in the fourth movie of the Saga. She returned in the sixth movie, in which it was revealed that her character wasn’t killed, but she lost her memory and started working for the opposing team of street racers. She rejoined the family by the end of that movie and has continued to be the regular star of the franchise ever since. Letty is a skilled street racer who, by her own words, would ride to death with Dominic.

 Jordana Brewster as Mia Toretto

Previous movie appearances: The Fast and the Furious, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, F9

Jordana Brewster is also one of the franchise’s original stars. Fun fact, she also didn’t have a driver’s license at the franchise’s start. Her character, Mia Toretto, is Dominic’s sister, and she developed a relationship with Brian O’Conner, who was played by the late star Paul Walker. Following Walker’s tragic death, his character retired in the seventh movie of the franchise, choosing to settle down with Mia and their two kids. Mia was absent from the eighth movie but returned in the ninth installment, which introduced Jakob Toretto, her and Dominic’s brother, played by John Cena.

Paul Walker’s brothers, Cody and Caleb, who were stand-ins for the late actor during the production of the seventh movie, revealed that they aren’t interested in bringing Brian O’Conner back to the franchise. However, Mia Toretto will still return in the tenth installment. Vin Diesel revealed that the original script for Fast X didn’t include Mia, but she was added after Diesel said he wanted her to be a part of the family until the very end.

Chris “Ludacris” Bridges as Tej Parker

Previous movie appearances: 2 Fast 2 Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, The Fate of the Furious, F9

Christopher Brian Bridges, known as Ludacris, is an American actor and rapper who joined the Fast & Furious franchise in the second installment. He plays Tej Parker, a former street racer and technical expert on Dominic Toretto’s team. We met him in 2 Fast 2 Furious, in which he was organizing street races. He was later recruited in the fifth movie to become a part of the family as a technical expert, and he has remained a franchise’s regular star ever since. Ludacris also performed several songs that were featured on the movie’s soundtrack.

Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce

Previous movie appearances: 2 Fast 2 Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, The Fate of the Furious, F9

Tyrese Gibson’s Roman Pearce and Ludacris’ Tej Parker are kinda always coming in the same package. They were both introduced in the second installment of the franchise. Both of them had a close friendship with Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner, and they both returned in the fifth installment to join the family. Roman is one of the franchise’s comic reliefs, and he’ll continue to be a regular star until the very end.

Nathalie Emmanuel as Ramsey

Previous movie appearances: Furious 7, The Fate of the Furious, F9

Nathalie Emmanuel made her breakthrough in the famous TV series Game of Thrones, where she played Missandei. She joined the Fast & Furious franchise in 2015’s Furious 7, in which she played Ramsey, a skilled hacker who was kidnapped by the mercenaries and later saved by the family. She became a part of Dominic’s team and returned in the eighth and ninth installments of the franchise. Although she’s a skilled hacker, one interesting thing that the latest movie revealed is that Ramsey doesn’t have a driver’s license. Well, thankfully, she’s a quick learner, and we’ll see if she will be behind the wheel in the next installment or only behind the keyboard.

Sung Kang as Han

Previous movie appearances: The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, F9

One thing you should know about the Fast & Furious franchise, no one ever really dies there. After Letty returned from the “dead,” the same thing happened to Sung Kang’s Han, a fan-favorite character who Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw presumably killed and later returned in the latest, ninth installment. Ever since he debuted in the third installment, Han became of the fan-favorite characters, and in the fifth installment, he developed a relationship with Gisele, played by Gal Gadot. Gadot’s character was killed off at the end of the sixth movie, but we wouldn’t be surprised if she came back. We’re excited to see Han back, and we can’t wait to see him again, especially after the post-credit scene of F9 in which Han paid a visit to Deckard Shaw.

Charlize Theron as Cipher

Previous movie appearances: The Fate of the Furious, F9

Charlize Theron debuted as a psychotic cyberterrorist Cipher in the eighth installment of the Saga, in which she managed to turn Dominic against his own family and ordered the execution of Elena, Dominic’s ex and the mother of his child. Although villains of this franchise usually die or get arrested at the end, Cipher managed to escape at the end of the eighth movie and returned in the ninth movie in a reduced role. The ending of the ninth movie has set up her return in the future, and it seems like Cipher might be the ultimate villain of the entire franchise. We’re waiting to see her evil plan for the next installment. Also, we’re all here for that fistfight she’s set to have with Michelle Rodriguez in Fast X.

Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw

Previous movie appearances: Fast & Furious 6 (post-credit scene), Furious 7, The Fate of the Furious, Hobbs & Shaw, F9 (post-credit scene)

Jason Statham is one of the most known action stars of this century. He debuted in the post-credit scene of the sixth installment as Deckard Shaw, the brother of Owen Shaw, who was the main villain of the movie. After his introduction, he returned in the seventh installment as the main villain before he was ultimately arrested and later forced to join the good guys in the eighth installment. Statham also joined Dwayne Johnson in the spin-off movie Hobbs & Shaw, but unlike Johnson, who decided to say farewell to the main franchise, Statham still returned for the post-credit scene of F9, which teased his team-up with Sung Kang’s Han in the tenth installment.

John Cena as Jakob Toretto

Previous movie appearances: F9

John Cena debuted as Dominic Toretto’s long-lost brother Jakob in the ninth franchise installment. Dom blamed Jakob for the death of their father, Jack Toretto, and he eventually cast Jakob away from the family. Unlike Dom, who grew up surrounded by the people that cared about him, Jakob was on his own. He eventually became a government agent who ran missions for Mr. Nobody before he went rogue to steal one-half of the project Aries. Jakob served as the ninth installment’s main villain before he was betrayed by his associate Otto. After that, Jakob helped Dom to stop Otto and Project Aries, and Dom gave him the keys to his car to run away. Now, the younger Toretto brother will return in the tenth installment, and it looks like Jakob will have the role of the cool and protective uncle to Dom’s son.

Helen Mirren as Magdalene “Queenie” Shaw

Previous movie appearances: The Fate of the Furious, Hobbs & Shaw, F9

The veteran actress Helen Mirren first joined the franchise in the eighth installment as the mother of Owen and Deckard Shaw. After the events of the eighth installment, at some point, she was arrested and sent to prison, where Deckard regularly visited her, as the spin-off movie depicted. She’s also the mother of Hattie Shaw, Vanessa Kirby’s character who was introduced in the spin-off. After escaping from prison, she appeared in a minor role in the ninth installment, and she’s set to return one more time in Fast X. Queenie likes to call Dom “her favorite American.”

Scott Eastwood as Little Nobody

Previous movie appearances: The Fate of the Furious

Scott Eastwood played the role of Little Nobody, an associate of Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody in The Fate of the Furious. He was a newbie government agent and covert operative who worked strictly by the rules, which wouldn’t usually be the best way. He’s also a skilled driver, which was proved in some car-chasing scenes in the movie. After being absent from F9, he was confirmed to return in the tenth installment.

Michael Rooker as Buddy

Previous movie appearances: F9

Michael Rooker, known for the role of Yondu in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, joined the Fast Saga in the latest installment as Buddy. Buddy was a member of Jack Toretto’s (Dominic’s father) pit crew and a caregiver to Jakob Toretto after Jack’s death and Dominic’s arrest. Buddy was featured only in the movie’s flashback sequences, but Rooker confirmed his return in the tenth installment. What his role will be this time remains to be seen.

Cardi B as Leysa

Previous movie appearances: F9

It’s not a secret that the Fast Saga loves to cast music artists. Although Ludacris and Don Omar are the best examples, the ninth movie of the franchise also added Cardi B in the role of Leysa, Dominic’s friend and a leader of an all-female paramilitary group. She had only one scene in the movie, but Vin Diesel announced she would return for more in the tenth installment.

NEWCOMERS

Jason Momoa as Dante

If you don’t know who Jason Momoa is, you’re probably living under a rock. Best known for the role of Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones and Aquaman in DC Extended Universe, Momoa became one of the most known actors in Hollywood. In 2021, we watched him as Duncan Idaho in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, and this year we’ll watch him in Fast X, in which he’ll play Dante.

The movie’s trailer introduced Dante as the son of Hernan Reyes, a corrupt politician who was the main villain of the fifth installment, in which the family stole Reyes’ 100-million-dollar vault, and Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs ultimately killed him. Now, after more than ten years, Dante is ready for revenge against Dom and his family. Momoa said he was excited to work with Charlize Theron, so we can probably expect some sort of villainous team-up.

Brie Larson as Tess

Academy Award-winning actress Brie Larson, who is currently known for the role of Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, once revealed she would like to join the Fast Saga, and Vin Diesel was more than ready to grant her that wish. From what we know so far, Larson’s character will be named Tess. Although fans expected that she’d be Brian O’Conner’s sister, it was later revealed that Tess is the daughter of Mr. Nobody, who Kurt Russell played in the Saga’s seventh, eighth, and ninth movies. Tess is described as a rogue government agency representative who will ally with Dom, although we think there’s more to her character than that.

Daniela Melchior as Isabel

Daniela Melchior, who played Ratcatcher 2 in James Gunn’s DC movie The Suicide Squad, officially signed to star in the upcoming tenth installment of the Fast Saga in the role of Isabel. Isabel is described as a Brazilian street racer who has a strong tie to Dom’s past. Not much is known about her character apart from that. With Aquaman, Captain Marvel, and Ratcatcher 2 joining the franchise, it seems like we’re finally getting that long-awaited Marvel/DC crossover, and its name is… Fast X!

Alan Ritchson as Aimes

Alan Ritchson, best known for the role of Hawk in the DC series Titans and the role of Jack Reacher in Amazon’s series Reacher, officially joined Fast X in May 2022. It’s interesting that one more DC star joined this movie, and Ritchson is set to play Agent Aimes, a new leader of Mr. Nobody’s government agency who doesn’t share the same enthusiasm for Dom’s crew as Mr. Nobody has.

Rita Moreno as Abuelita

The legendary Puerto Rican actress Rita Moreno joined the tenth installment of the franchise as Abuelita Toretto, a grandmother of Dom, Jakob, and Mia. That’s all we know about her character at this moment.

Some known franchise stars, like Kurt Russell, Anna Sawai, and Lucas Black, theoretically might return in the next installment, but their return hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. If we get any new information, we will update this article.

The franchise’s veteran Justin Lin was initially set to direct this movie, but he stepped down from the position and will remain on the project as the producer and co-writer. Louis Leterrier, director of Transporter 2, The Incredible Hulk, and Now You See Me, stepped in as a replacement director. Fast X is set to be released on May 19, 2023.
