Season 2 of Alice In Borderland allowed us to see a lot of revelations regarding the events of the entire storyline. But the one thing that we’re sure of is that Arisu is still fighting to continue to live on with his life to honor Chōta and Karube, who we met in season 1 as his best friends. Of course, we already know a lot of things that were revealed in season 2, especially in relation to the nature of the Borderlands. So, are Chōta and Karube already dead in season 2?

Technically speaking, Chōta and Karube are still alive in the real world during the events of season 2 despite the fact that their versions in the Borderlands already died in season 1. However, because time moves differently in the Borderlands, Chōta and Karube only died once Arisu got back to the real world.

The huge twist at the end of Alice In Borderland season 2 allowed us to understand more about the true nature of the Borderlands and what happened to the people who were transported there to play a series of games that determined whether they lived or died. In that regard, of course, the events that happened in the real world allowed us to see what truly happened to Chōta and Karube and even the other people who died in the Borderlands.

Have Chōta And Karube Died In Alice In Borderland Season 2?

One of the things that we know about Alice In Borderland is that the players are forced to play a series of different games that determine whether or not they should continue to live in the weird parallel world called the Borderlands. Of course, the series started with Arisu and his two best friends, Chōta and Karube, getting transported to the Borderlands together.

But the one thing that we did see in season 1 of Alice In Borderlands was that Arisu was forced to play a particularly difficult Hearts game together with his best friends, as it was clear that they were forced to make tough decisions that required them to betray one another for the sake of one of them to live. Of course, technically, we saw that Chōta and Karube had died during season 1, and that was what led Arisu to continue to fight through the games in the Borderlands in honor of the sacrifice made by his best friends.

However, the thing that fans should know is that the ending of season 2 of Alice In Borderland allowed us to understand more about the true nature of the Borderlands and what happened to the people that went there. This was revealed when Arisu and Usagi finally completed the Queen of Hearts game and ended up choosing to go back to the real world instead of staying in the Borderlands.

The ending showed that everyone who nearby Shibuya during the events of the first episode of Alice In Borderland was a victim of a meteorite that crashed in Tokyo. Their consciousnesses were transported to a place called the Borderlands, which is a land that is found between life and death (hence the name). In that regard, their bodies were still in the real world, fighting to survive the injuries they sustained in the meteorite crash. However, the consciousness of the characters was playing a series of games in the Borderlands to determine whether or not they get to live or die in the real world.

Of course, while we already know that both Chōta and Karube died in the Borderlands in season 1, we also know that time doesn’t move the same way in the Borderlands as it does in the real world. While a long time has already passed in the Borderlands, the events in the real world only took place shortly after the meteorite crashed. It was only when Arisu and Usagi defeated the Queen of Hearts that time continued to move in the real world, as they only woke up in the hospital after they had recovered from the injuries they suffered in the Shibuya incident.

So, technically, while the games were still happening in the Borderlands, Chōta and Karube were still alive in the real world. It was only when the games concluded, and the characters were allowed to make their decisions that time finally continued to move into the real world. That was when Arisu found out that both Chōta and Karube had died.

How Did Chōta And Karube Die In Alice In Borderland?

For those who don’t remember, we did see Chōta and Karube dying in season 1. This happened in the Seven of Hearts game when they were forced to play a game of hide and seek, where only the one who was hiding was going to be spared at the end of the game. Chōta and Karube both wanted to live and even went on to betray Arisu during the game. However, they both decided that it was best for Arisu to survive and move on to finish all of the games because they believed that he was the only one equipped with the necessary qualities to defeat the Borderlands.

As such, they both died when their heads exploded due to the bombs on the collars that they were wearing during the hide-and-seek game. That means that they both died in the Borderlands due to what happened in the Seven of Hearts game.

However, the thing that we need to know is that that was only their death in the Borderlands and not in the real world. In the real world, we saw that the trio of Arisu, Chōta, and Karube were running around Shibuya. This was the very same scene that we saw in the first episode of Alice In Borderland.

But it was eventually revealed that a meteorite had crashed on Shibuya, and that was what injured and killed a lot of people there. Meanwhile, those who were injured had their consciousnesses transported to the Borderlands, where they were made to fight for their lives. Of course, both Chōta and Karube died in the Borderlands.

We also saw during the end of season 2 that the survivors of the Borderlands retained the injuries they suffered. That means that, while the meteorite injured and killed Chōta and Karube, it is possible that what killed them were the head injuries they suffered in the real world, as we know that they both died when their heads exploded in the Borderlands.
