In the world of Demon Slayer, the Twelve Kizuki were an organization made up of a group of twelve Demons who pursued the goal of finding the Blue Spider Lily. The organization was created and led by Muzan Kibutsuji. One of the members of this group was Gyokko, who held the rank of Upper Rank Five. Gyokko was a powerful water-based Demon who was, like many of the Kizuki, unique in how he was able to manifest his powers and abilities, and in this article, we will tell you a bit about these powers and abilities.
The article is going to be divided into two major parts. The first one will represent Gyokko’s powers and abilities, while the other one will be a short comparison of Gyokko’s powers and abilities to the powers and abilities of other characters, divided into several subsections. These will not be detailed analyses, just brief comments so you can understand Gyokko’s position in the Demon Slayer lore.
Gyokko’s powers and abilities
As the Upper-Rank Five of the Twelve Kizuki, Gyokko possessed powers and abilities beyond any conventional Demon, being able to rise to the level of the Hashira as seen in his confrontation with Muichiro Tokito, eventually surpassing him and coming close to killing him during the fight, but Muichiro managed to win after awakening his Demon Slayer Mark.
He was a formidable regenerator due to his Demon nature, and these powers tended to get stronger the more blood Muzan Kibutsuji gave him. He managed to escape Muzan’s beheading and was subsequently able to easily reattach his severed head. He was also effortlessly able to heal cuts caused by Nichirin blades in a short period of time.
Gyokko was demonstrated to have amazing speed and reflexes when, despite Muichiro Tokito utilizing his Mist Breathing techniques to impair and knock out Gyokko’s senses, he managed to dodge the attacks that would have killed him with ease. Gyokko was able to attack by shifting from one vase to another. He did had the drawback of being unable to scroll when a vase was destroyed. It is unknown if he creates the non-sentient demon fish inside his vases or if he summons them from other locations, but he could call them from his vases.
These summons might be connected to the demonic beings Muzan has in his base. He had the ability to shed his skin in a crisis and change his appearance. Gyokko’s physical transformation made him immensely stronger. He had translucent scales all over his body that were more durable than the diamonds being worked within his pot. Gyokko could only be seen in that state by three individuals. With his fists, he transformed everything into a tiny fish.
In terms of his Blood Demon Art, Gyokko’s skills revolve around his vases, which seem to appear out of thin air in response to Gyokko’s commands and which he uses for a variety of tasks. Gyokko has the ability to transform in a crisis and change his appearance. Gyokko gains a lot of strength after altering his appearance.
His main body is covered in translucent scales that are as hard as diamonds and that have been combined inside of its pot. Gyokko has only ever been observed in this state by three people. When he strikes something with his fists, it turns into a cute tiny fish. His power to morph is comparable to Father Spider Demon’s capacity to modify his appearance and strength.
How powerful is Gyokko compared to other Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba characters?
In this section, we will compare Gyokko to some other strong Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba characters. These are going to be brief comparisons whose main goal is to give you a general idea of his powers and abilities.
Gyokko vs. Muzan
Muzan is the most powerful of all Demons and the creator of all the Demons that came after him. His weaknesses are the same as those of the other Demons, but his powers and abilities far surpass those of any other known Demon in the series. Using his powers, he has turned numerous people into Demons and has organized the most powerful ones in the Twelve Kizuki. Gyokko was powerful, and he was versatile in many ways, but Muzan was simply too powerful for him, and Gyokko was aware of that fact; he also experienced it when Muzan took his head from his hideout without even moving, assigning him the task of attacking the Swordsmith Village with Hantengu.
Gyokko vs. Kokushibo
Kokushibo, as the Upper-Rank One, was essentially the second-strongest Demon after Muzan. Kokushibo, Yoriichi’s brother, requested Muzan to convert him into a Demon so he might become stronger and immortal. He is an extraordinarily talented swordsman and is familiar with the Moon Breathing Style.
Since the Twelve Kizuki were organized as a hierarchy, Kokushibo was the strongest among them, which means that he was significantly more powerful than Gyokko as well. There is nothing much to add here, as Kokushibo would probably be able to slice him in a second.
Gyokko vs. Doma and Akaza
Due to the fact that Gyokko was the Upper-Rank Five, we have to conclude that he was weaker than both Doma and Akaza, the Upper Ranks Two and Three, respectively. Now, the difference between Gyokko and the top three Upper Ranks was truly big. We’re certain that neither of them (we have talked about Kokushibo already) would have any problems dealing with Gyokko.
Gyokko vs. the remaining Twelve Kizuki
As the Upper Rank Five, Gyokko was weaker than the first four Upper Ranks, but respecting the group’s hierarchy, we have to state that he was stronger than the remaining Upper Ranks and all of the Lower Ranks. He was stronger than Daki, Gyutaro, and Kaigaku, but he would lose to both Hantengu and Nakime, as far as the remaining members (i.e., those we have not mentioned so far) of the Twelve Kizuki are concerned.
Gyokko vs. Tanjiro Kamado
Well, this is an intriguing one. Initially, there is absolutely no doubt that Gyokko would have been able to kill Tanjiro in a matter of seconds; the difference in power was, indeed, so significant. But, as time passed, Tanjiro gathered more experience and became an exceptionally powerful Demon Slayer.
If you add to that the fact that Tanjiro also learned the Sun Breathing Style later on (by remembering the Hinokami Kagura), we can only conclude that Tanjiro has gotten much stronger, but he never became the strongest. And while he did not fight Gyokko in the Swordsmith Village, he defeated Hantengu, a Demon stronger than Gyokko, which means that he would be able to overpower Gyokko as well.
Gyokko vs. Muichiro Tokito
We always pick one specific Hashira to compare with a member of the Kizuki, and in Gyokko’s case, we picked Muichiro, as the two of them fought in the Swordsmith Village. Gyokko was undoubtedly powerful, and he could be on par with Muichiro during their fight, almost killing him at one point. Still, after Muichiro activated his Demon Slayer Mark, he was able to defeat Gyokko, and that means that we can confirm that Muichiro is indeed stronger.
Gyokko vs. the remaining Hashira
This is a very versatile category, depending on whom Gyokko would fight. A combination of Hashira would definitely be enough to defeat him, but we think he would also lose to them individually. Gyomei and Obanai would defeat him easily, and we’re quite certain that Giyu would also have little to no problems dealing with him. Shinobu would probably be able to surpass him as well, as would Tengen and Mitsuri. The only ones we’re not sure about are Sanemi because of his skills and Rengoku because he was the Flame Hashira, and we don’t know how his element would react to Gyokko’s powers.
Gyokko vs. Zenitsu
Zenitsu defeated Kaigaku, and we can say that we honestly think he was somewhere on the level of the Upper-Rank Five. And while Zenitsu is certainly not to be underestimated, that much is true. His level of power, experience, and versatility are generally not that high compared to the Upper Ranks. Still, Gyokko is an opponent whose skills and abilities are suitable for Zenitsu, not just because of their nature, but because Zenitsu is a Thunder Breathing user, and we know that water does not do that well against lightning.
Gyokko vs. Inosuke
Everything we’ve said about Zenitsu can also be applied to Inosuke, as we’d also give Inosuke the upper hand here. Inosuke survived a fight against Doma, proving that he is definitely powerful enough to face the Upper Ranks alone. Gyokko is definitely not as strong as Doma, and while Inosuke had a lot of help in defeating the Upper Rank Two, Gyokko is significantly weaker, and Inosuke’s strength would be enough to overpower Gyokko if the two had fought.
