How Strong is Zenitsu? Compared to Tanjiro, Inosuke, Tengen & Others

Zenitsu Agatsuma is one of the most intriguing characters in the whole Demon Slayer series. Seemingly a coward, Zenitsu has actually proven himself to be a very capable and powerful Demon Slayer, but also a troubled one, as he feels constant guilt for not being able to stop his master from committing suicide. Now, Zenitsu’s Thunder Breathing has evolved through the series, and in this article, we will tell you a bit about his powers and abilities.

The article is going to be divided into two major parts. The first one is going to be a representation of Zenitsu’s powers and abilities, while the other one is going to be a short comparison of Zenitsu’s powers and abilities to the powers and abilities of other characters, divided into several subsections. These will not be detailed analyses, just brief comments so you can understand Zenitsu’s position in the Demon Slayer lore.

Zenitsu’s strength

Zenitsu’s hearing is acute enough for him to pick up even the faintest sound waves in his immediate environment. As time passes, Zenitsu’s hearing enables him to discern even a person’s most secret thoughts. Although Zenitsu has outstanding reflexes, his cowardice frequently prevents him from making the most of them.

Thunder Breathing is his primary breathing style. Zenitsu was taught Thunder Breathing by Jigoro Kuwajima, a former Hashira (his former Master). By using this method, the person develops demon-like power and agility. Thunder Breath consists of a total of six different forms, but due to Zenitsu’s limited skill, he was only able to master the first form, which is considered to be the most fundamental. Nevertheless, Zenitsu has succeeded in creating a seventh posture for himself through persistent practice in order to outperform his classmate Kaigaku.

Demon Slayer: Does Zenitsu Die? (Or Does He Live on Happily)

First Form: Thunderclap and Flash allows the user to lunge forward and attack their opponent with incredible speed. Zenitsu has honed this ability to the point of being able to repeat the move multiple times in rapid succession. Zenitsu often uses the move with the Six-Fold variation (six steps) but has been able to use the Eight-Fold variation to quickly scroll up to eight times consecutively and use the technique simultaneously.

Godspeed is an extension of the First Form: Thunderclap and Flash. Zenitsu can use this technique to further increase the speed of his Flash Thunder. The only detail is that he can only use this ability twice daily. After the second time, his legs become useless by breaking.

Seventh Form: Honoikazuchi no Kami is the original seventh form of Thunder Breathing that was created by Zenitsu himself; he is the only known user of this form. The user creates a dragon-like creature that emits fire and thunder. This stance, in combination with the Speed of the Gods, was what allowed him to defeat his former entertainment partner and Upper Moon Six, Kaigaku. Shortly before Kaigaku died, Zenitsu confesses that he created this stance on his own, hoping to fight alongside him one day.

How strong is Zenitsu when sleeping?

When Zenitsu is sleeping, he is at his strongest. He reaches his full capacity when his life is in jeopardy because the fear he experiences is greater than what his body can handle. When Zenitsu is asleep, he uses the sword at a high level entirely based on his instincts. But as the narrative progresses, he develops his abilities and guts. He starts to rely less and less on this capacity, demonstrating the same qualities by being self-aware.

Is Zenitsu the strongest Demon Slayer?

Based on what we know, Zenitsu was definitely not the strongest Demon Slayer in the story. He wasn’t even close. And while he might have reached a Hashira-level of power at some point, he still had a lot of issues in his performance, and his technique was not all that brilliant. On top of that, he never mastered all of the forms of Thunder Breathing, as far as we know. This is why he was not even the strongest among the protagonists and was definitely not as strong as most Hashira. Knowing that Yoriichi Tsugikuni was the strongest Demon Slayer in history, we can only say that Zenitsu never even came close. In our upcoming sections, we are going to compare Zenitsu to some characters in the series to determine how strong he was in comparison to them.

Is Zenitsu stronger than Tanjiro?

Tanjiro and Zenitsu are close friends. Tanjiro “saved” Zenitsu from an angry girl; since then, Zenitsu has been going with Tanjiro on his adventures. They are later joined by Inosuke, who becomes the third protagonist of the series. Initially, Zenitsu was portrayed as a cowardly character and someone who was basically forced into becoming a Demon Slayer against his will; this explains why he avoids fighting and why he runs away if he can. Initially, most fans thought that Zentsu was, thus, quite weak, but as it later proved, Zenitsu was actually a formidably strong character. He just lacked the self-esteem and the determination to put all of his skills to proper use. These are traits that Tanjiro has because Tanjiro has a clear goal – he wants to kill Muzan and save Nezuko from Muzan’s curse.

Now, if it would come down to a fight between Tanjiro and Zenitsu, Tanjiro would ultimately come out on top. Tanjiro is the strongest among the protagonists, and he is able to master two Breathing Styles, which is more than Zenitsu, who did not even master his own style. Sure, the Thunder Breathing-user could do something against Tanjiro in a fight, but it would ultimately come down to Tanjiro’s skills and experience, which is where Zenitsu wouldn’t really stand much chance. This is why we can practically confirm that Zenitsu is not stronger than Tanjiro in Demon Slayer despite all of these powers and abilities.

Is Zenitsu stronger than Inosuke?

As far as Inosuke is concerned, he and Zenitsu have a very intriguing relationship. Namely, the third member of the protagonist trio came last, and he was the total opposite of Zenitsu in every possible way. Whereas Zenitsu was a cowardly lot, Inosuke was truly like a boar – wild, without control, and quite aggressive; he was also brave to the point of being completely stupid at times. Inosuke would rush at an opponent without thinking anything through, he wouldn’t really care for the consequences, and in that aspect, he was the complete opposite of Zenitsu, which is why both of them needed some time to get used to each other.

But, as far as their powers and abilities are concerned, they are on a very similar level. Sure, Inosuke knows more forms of his own Beast Breathing, but in his sleeping mode, Zenitsu is as powerful as Inosuke, really. Inosuke might be a more versatile fighter, but Zenitsu has that element of surprise, whose power is such that it would easily overwhelm Inosuke in a direct fight. In a straightforward fight, Zenitsu would probably run away from Inosuke. Still, if the two were to actually clash, the Thunder Breathing user could probably take on Inosuke as an equal and even defeat him, in our opinion.

Is Zenitsu stronger than Tenegen?

Tengen Uzui is the Sound Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps. He is an exceptionally powerful and fast fighter who uses his ninja-like abilities to eliminate Muzan’s demons. He also has a very flamboyant personality and is, similarly to Inosuke, the polar opposite of Zenitsu. Where Zenitsu is shy and cowardly, Tengen is loud and sociable, which caused a lot of interesting and funny moments between the two as they interacted in the series. But, this doesn’t have any direct implications on their powers and the difference between them, which is quite large.

Namely, as a Hashira, Tengen Uzui is one of the strongest members of the Demon Slayer Corps. He is fast, he is a skilled swordsman, and his Sound Breathing is one of the more interesting breathing styles in the series. Tengen was able to take on the Upper Moons easily, although he was not able to defeat them alone. He is a much more versatile fighter than Zenitsu, and the mastery of his style deserves every praise. From that perspective, Zenitsu is absolutely not as strong as Tengen and would lose in a direct fight with the Sound Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps.

Is Zenitsu stronger than Rengoku?

Kyōjurō Rengoku is an amazing character. Quirky and very talkative, he had a very specific approach to his duties and was one of the noblest and most beloved characters in the series, which is why everyone was heartbroken to see him go during the Infinity Train Arc. He was the Flame Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, and the story of how he actually became the Flame Hashira was hiding a tragic background full of negligence and abuse (and was related to his father). Rengoku was a great mentor and, in that aspect, one of the best characters in the series.

As far as his powers and abilities are concerned, Rengoku is undoubtedly a lot more powerful than Zenitsu. He was a Hashira and was a master of Flame Breathing, which made him incredibly powerful and, in all honesty, one of the more powerful Hashira. Zenitsu couldn’t match his powers in any way, just as he could not match those of Tengen, whom we analyzed and discussed in the preceding paragraph. This is why we are absolutely certain that Zenitsu is not as strong as Kyōjurō Rengoku in Demon Slayer and would lose in a battle against him.

Is Zenitsu stronger than Kaigaku?

Kaigaku was the Upper-Rank Six at one point. He was a powerful Demon, but he was also a former pupil of Zenitsu’s master, Jigoro Kuwajima. At one point, Kaigaku deduced that he wanted more power and ran away to Muzan, who turned him into a Demon; he would later become the Upper Moon Six, as we have said. His deflection was the reason for Jigoro’s suicide, which is why Zenitsu doesn’t like him very much. But, even while they were both Jigoro’s pupils, they had a very strained relationship as Kaigaku often mocked Zenitsu and belittled him because he lacked the talent to learn all forms of Thunder Breathing.

Although you’d think that Kaigaku would be stronger than Zenitsu, Zenitsu actually won when they fought. Kaigaku combined Jigoro’s teachings with Muzan’s demonic powers, but he was still surprised by Zenitsu, who used his Seventh Form (see above) to defeat him when they clashed directly. This was a big moment for Zenitsu, as he had finally avenged his master and proven his worth to him. This is why Zenitsu is stronger than Kaigaku.
