Is Planet Minecraft Safe To Use? We’ve Tested the Site

Share:

Fan communities have been around since the dawn of Minecraft and with what seems to be likely millions of available mods, texture packs, and skins, it’s hard to find the ones that won’t completely destroy your PC or laptop. Planet Minecraft seems to never have been on the back burner of communities where you can download various Minecraft-related content. So, let’s check out whether Planet Minecraft is safe?

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Planet Minecraft is almost 100% safe to use. The website features a total of 28 moderators that detect and remove any malicious content posted on the site.
  • However, it is recommended that you own antivirus software in order to be completely safe.

Planet Minecraft is one of the most popular Minecraft sites

Planet Minecraft is a website posting exclusively Minecraft-related content. It was developed by Cyprezz and Paril and the way they describe the site is simple: ”We’re a community of creatives sharing everything Minecraft!”. With ”everything”, they truly do mean everything. The stuff you’ll find there includes but is not exclusive to:

Maps

You can share your own custom maps, inspire players to make their own, and you can download the said custom maps for new world experiences. You can filter out the maps by trending, best, new, most views, most downloads, and new. To make navigation easier, you can search the maps by tags.

Texture packs

If you’re unfamiliar with texture packs, they help you customize the look and feel of your game. The three things they can modify are textures, audio, and models. The same filter categories apply to the texture packs and every other feature on the website I’ll mention next.

Player skins

This is a pretty self-explanatory category. If you don’t want to make your own skins, you can choose from over 1.5 million skins in the Planet Minecraft database. This category is likely the least popular one since people want their player skins to be unique.

Mob skins

Did you ever want to have an ally that looks like a warden, a pet skeleton wolf, or perhaps blocks in the Nether that look like they came straight out of your own personal nightmare? Well, that’s exactly what this category is for. You can find changed textures of animals, mobs, and items.

Data packs

Data packs can change your in-game experience by introducing new game mechanics and various challenges or even simple quality-of-life changes. The developers and moderators say that data packs are easy and completely safe to install.

Mods

Mods are created by developers and are likely the most impressive category out there. They change default game functions and add completely new game modes and mechanics.

Community

If you’re looking for a community to join that shares the same passion for Minecraft you do, there are tons of forums groups, and even discord channels you can join to meet new people and play Minecraft with.

What do the numbers have to say?

The fact of the matter is, Planet Minecraft wouldn’t be popular if it wasn’t a trustworthy site and the numbers are here to prove it. There’s a total of 3.815.732 community members, around 3.000.000 submissions, more than 3 billion submission views, and half a billion downloads. At the time of my testing out the site, there were almost 10k users online so these numbers are not just historical data.

Beware of ads

It’s hard to modify every single piece of content that comes out on Planet Minecraft. The developers, modifiers, and people who submit likely make money out of ads that they link to the content. Ads are harder to modify so don’t click on any ads and you’ve just added another layer of safety to your experience.

Community talks

Most of the community agrees Planet Minecraft and Curse Forge are the safest sites to use within the community. Some community members have an objective perspective which I’ll sum up. It’s as safe as any other website. Malicious content is uploaded everywhere it’s just a matter of learning how you’re going to detect it and stay away from it as much as possible. The user also says that malicious content is solved pretty fast once reported.

Tips to make your visit a safe one

Every category in Planet Minecraft features submissions. Under those submissions, you’ll find three things that will be important to how you choose to download a safe file: views, downloads, and comments. If a submission has a lot of downloads, it’s likely safe and if you’re still not sure, just read the comments and you’ll be okay.

Additionally, you can only choose to download the best and the most trending mods, texture packs, skins, etc.. by sorting them out. Don’t download .exe files, and if something sounds too good to be true, it likely is. I’m not saying you can’t find amazing mods there, but make sure you double-check the ones that are awesome.

If you want to be extra safe, you might want to get an antivirus installed but none of those free-trial versions. The best-paid antivirus are ESET, Norton, McAfee, NordVPN, and Surfshark Antivirus. I personally use ESET and they have a relatively cheap yearly subscription that doesn’t affect my PC’s performance in any way.
