Jōgan vs. Rinnegan: Which Dōjutsu Is More Powerful?

Share:

Humans, generally, tend to have two eyes but the humans of Naruto sometimes have very special eyes. These so-called “eye techniques,” the Dōjutsu, give the users more power and possess some special abilities that can be utilized in battle. There are several such techniques in the series, and in this article, we are going to compare two of them to determine the more powerful one. The techniques in question are the Jōgan and the Rinnegan, analyses of which you will be able to read in our article.

At this point, the Jōgan is still not as powerful as the Rinnegan. Being similar to the Tenseigan, the Jōgan still cannot match the versatility of the Rinnegan, which is still the most powerful Dōjutsu in the series. Having said that, the Jōgan has enormous potential, and it is speculated that it will have become the most powerful technique by the time Boruto reaches its conclusion.

Now that you know the answer, let us see what’s in store for you in the article. Firstly, we are going to explain each of the eyes and what they can do. Secondly, we’re going to compare the eyes individually and then determine which among them is the strongest. Finally, you’re going to find out which of these techniques is stronger.

What is the Jōgan in Naruto?

The Jōgan is a special Kekkei Genkai that functions basically like a Byakugan but may be utilized even more accurately and expertly. It could be thought of as a stage between Byakugan and Tenseigan. It has a very similar appearance to the Tenseigan from a visual standpoint, but it is less vibrant and has more white-blue luminous tones. In addition, it may be easily distinguished from the other two ways because, when activated, the sclera turns black, and the iris and pupil start to shine white.

So far, only Boruto Uzumaki has managed to awaken the Jōgan in his right eye, so nothing is known about what it could do if it were in both eyes. The Jōgan allows the user, first and foremost, similar to the Byakugan, to see the opponent’s Keirakukei, which is why the Tenketsu can also be targeted and blocked here, so it is, therefore, very likely possible to learn Juuken. The special feature of this Dōjutsu, however, is that you can not only recognize the chakra flow and the chakra points, but you can even guess their emotions and intentions from them.

In addition, the Jōgan not only allows limited insight through barriers, as would be the case with the Byakugan, for example, but also allows the user to see through them into other dimensions, provided that they have their origin in another dimension. The Jōgan also activates unconsciously when the user is in immediate danger.

What is the Rinnegan in Naruto?

The Rinnegan is the most powerful of the three major Dōjutsu, the other two being the Byakugan and the Sharingan, all of which can be traced back to the Otsutsuki clan. It is also a Kekkei Genkai, but in contrast to the other two eye arts, it is only awakened extremely rarely and can, therefore, not be assigned to any clan. However, Hagoromo Otsutsuki’s Rinnegan is a Kekkei Moura.

The Rinnegan grants the caster godlike abilities and is represented as an all-purple eye with circles around the iris. According to legend, it is said to be sent from heaven in times of chaos, and its user becomes either a “god of creation” who brings peace to the world or a “destroyer” who reduces the world to nothing. Since it is rarely awakened, almost nothing is known about the circumstances of the same, except that one must be a descendant of Rikudou Sennin, since he was the first to awaken the Kekkei Genkai.

This was possible because Kaguya Otsutsuki, his mother, was able to awaken the original Rinne Sharingan beforehand. Madara Uchiha awakened the Rin’negan from its permanent Mangekyou Sharingan shortly before his death. In the Fourth Shinobi World War, he got his eyes back. Nagato got his Rin’negan from Madara Uchiha. However, the exact circumstances of this intervention are not known. Sasuke Uchiha attains the Rinnegan with six tomoe after Rikudou Sennin transfers part of his chakra to him. As with other eye arts, the Rin’negan can also be implanted, as demonstrated by Tobi and Madara in the Fourth Shinobi World War.

The Rinnegan grants the user godlike abilities. For example, Jiraiya said that thanks to Rinnegan, Nagato was able to master all the elements and was able to learn every jutsu he saw in a very short time. Arguably its most powerful and prominent abilities are the six paths, each granting the user incredible power, and the seventh path, which can even raise the dead.

The remaining six paths are the Tendou, which allows you to attract and repel matter and control gravity, and the Chikushoudou, which allows you to summon numerous Kuchiyose animals. The Shuradou, which allows you to transform yourself into some kind of machine, and the Jigokudou, which can be used to summon the Hell King. And the Ningendou, which can be used to drain people’s souls and extract all information from them. And the Gakidou, can absorb all types of chakra, allowing the user to regenerate their own chakra balance.

The user can apply all of these paths themselves or transfer them to corpses and Edo Tensei zombies and then control them using chakra conductors while remaining within range. If you choose the latter variant, the user has the entire field of view of all bodies and their summons at all times, which gives him a kind of all-around view.

However, controlling the bodies over time seems to be extremely harmful to the user, as Nagato was in a very bad state and eventually died from overusing his bodies, leaving most of them resting in Amegakure most of the time. Off the paths, the Rin’negan allows the user to summon Gedou Mazou, a statue capable of sucking up and storing Bijuu or using special chakra chains or, if sealed in one of his bodies, conductors, to control and see chakra and barriers.

It also allows the user to read even more of the Rikudou Sennin’s stone tablet hidden in the Naka Shrine than is possible with the Sharingan or the Mangekyou Sharingan. The Rin’negan also allows for shadowy evasion techniques such as Madara Uchiha’s Rinbo: Hengoku or Sasuke’s ability to swap places with a person or object. Sasuke is also able to control all Bijuu at once with his eye. In addition, Momoshiki also has two Rin’negan, which are in his palms but are a little different from the usual ones.

On the one hand, his Rinnegan is kept in a blood-red, luminous color, and on the other hand, it enables him to use a unique technique that probably represents a further development of Gakidou since he can also absorb all Nin-Jutsu for this purpose. However, with the Takamimusubinokami, he can not only absorb the jutsu but also amplify, adapt, and reproduce them to smack his opponents in the face. In addition, after the Ootsutsuki reached its ultimate form, a third Rin’negan eye formed on its forehead, and all of its eyes turned golden. However, it is not yet known to what extent Rinnegan’s abilities have changed in this form.

Jōgan vs. Rinnegan: Which Dōjutsu is stronger?

And now for the most important and interesting section of our article – the analysis. Here, we are going to use what we have found out about these two techniques and analyze how all these facts would be reflected in a direct clash of these two techniques in Naruto. Let us continue.

The Dōjutsu are incredibly different to compare because they are all quite powerful and give the users some amazing abilities. This is why it is always complex to determine the more powerful one. But, from a comparative standpoint, there is no denying that both of these Dōjutsu are exceptionally powerful, but there is a winner if you ask us.

At this point, since the Jōgan is still relatively new and will certainly develop further in the story, it is not easy to determine the stronger one. The Jōgan is similar to the Tenseigan, and the Tenseigan is not as strong as the Rinnegan due to the versatility of the Rinnegan’s abilities, but the Jōgan seemingly has a lot more potential. This is a thing that might happen later in the series, but that is something that we can only talk about from a theoretical standpoint since we don’t know what Kishimoto has planned for the Jōgan.

Still, there is a strong possibility that it might become the most powerful technique in the series, but that is something that we will have to wait for. At this moment, the Rinnegan is still the most powerful technique in the series, and despite its (possible) potential, the Jōgan is still not on that level, and that is why we have concluded this as we have.
