Jujustu Kaisen: Here Is Why Toji Killed Riko!
Jujutsu Kaisen’s Toji Fushiguro killed Riko Amanai. This epic scene from Gojo’s Past Arc was the culmination of a series of events that started with Toji almost killing Gojo and ended with Gojo killing Toji. It was all about Riko, who was the Star Plasma Vessel, and it was all about protecting/killing her, based on your perspective. Now, Riko’s death had a major impact on the series, and that is why we think that it is important for us to explain to you why Toji Fushiguro acted as he did and why he killed the young girl who simply wanted to live.
Toji was an assassin, and he was simply doing his job
Riko Amanai was introduced as the Star Plasma Vessel during the Gojo’s Past Arc. We first see her when Geto and Gojo go to rescue her from the terrorist group Q. She is a 14-year-old girl who lives with her caregiver.
She is unique in that she can see curses and jujutsu, even though she is unable to use either. She is initially quite pleased with her portrayal in the series as the Star Plasma Vessel. But as the narrative goes on, she starts to appreciate life more and more until she finally sobs and declares that she does not want to join Master Tengen, even if doing so could be dangerous.
Now, her merging with Master Tengen would restart the powerful jujutsu sorcerer, meaning that the balance would be maintained and the world would remain as it is. Several groups wanted to prevent that, but while Q went to kill Riko themselves – and ended up being beaten by Gojo and Geto and disbanded – the more powerful Time Vessel Association hired the best assassin out there: Toji Fushiguro.
Toji Fushiguro accepted the task, and knowing that he was up against Geto and Gojo, he devised an elaborate plan. He offered the reward for killing Riko to other assassins, much weaker than him, who gladly accepted. Of course, Toji knew that Gojo and Geto would defeat them, but they were there to exhaust the two. He caused several such ruses before revealing himself in Tokyo, as Gojo and Geto brought Riko from Okinawa to the school where Tengen was.
There, Toji attacked Gojo, and the two of them had a bitter fight in which Toji seemingly defeated the young Gojo and left him for dead. He then went to Riko, who had just said to Geto that she wanted to live and that she did not want to merge with Tengen, regardless of the consequences. As Geto was about to take her away, a bullet landed in her head and killed her right in front of his eyes. Toji then revealed himself and said that he did it and that with it – his mission was done.
He then engaged and defeated Geto as well, taking Riko’s body to the Time Vessel Association. After being paid, though, he was confronted by “Feral” Gojo, who defeated him with ease this time and recovered Riko’s body from the building. So, why did Toji do it?
He indeed had no personal grudge against the girl, but he was a professional assassin, and he was, indeed, a proper professional in that aspect. He took on the mission without caring who Riko was and what her story was.
She was simply a target to him, and he could not care less about her story. This is why he approached the task so coldly and why he was able to execute her without even a shred of doubt. Riko had the bad luck of being targeted by him, and Toji simply remained true to himself and fulfilled the task he had taken on. And that is the whole story, as it happened on the pages of Jujutsu Kaisen, so you now know the whole deal related to the issue at hand.
