Jujutsu Kaisen: Meet Tsumiki, Megumi’s ‘Sister’!

Jujutsu Kaisen: Meet Tsumiki, Megumi's "Sister"!

Share:

The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen introduced us to several new characters, and while the Gojo’s Past Arc focused primarily on Riko Amanai and Toji Fushiguro, several other characters were introduced as well, and one of them is Tsumiki Fushiguro, Megumi’s “sister,” who was seen briefly near the end of the Gojo’s Past Arc. Now, Tsumiki is not a completely new character, as she was seen in a flashback early on in the series, but the ending of Gojo’s Past Arc finally provided us with some information about her, and we can now introduce this character to you, as you will find out everything you need to know about Tsumiki Fushiguro and her role in the series in this article.

Tsumiki Fushiguro is Megumi Fushiguro’s “sister,” although she is actually his older step-sister by his father’s second marriage; the two of them are not biologically related in any way, as even Toji, Megumi’s father, is not biologically related to Tsumiki, he just made her his step-daughter when he married her mother. She was initially born without any powers but was drawn into the Culling Game by Kenjaku and used as a vessel for the powerful sorceress Yorozu, who was obsessed with Sukuna.

The rest of this article will be about Tsumiki Fushiguro, as we will focus more on her brief appearance in the series and her role in the future arcs of the story. We are going to tell you who Tsumiki Fushiguro is, how she is related to Megumi, as well as what her overall role in the story is, but we are going to try to avoid revealing any major spoilers about her. Still, be careful, as we must inform you that this article will contain many spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, so you have to decide for yourselves how you want to approach it.

Tsumiki Fushiguro is Megumi’s “sister,” although the two of them are not blood relatives

The story of Tsumiki Fushiguro is quite interesting, and we shall start it off with Toji Fushiguro, as he is the factor that ultimately connected Megumi and her. Toji was born with a Heavenly Restriction, and because of that, he was rejected by his family, the Zenin, so one day, deciding that he would not take it anymore, he simply left them.

Spiraling down into chaos, he became a sorcerer assassin for hire and also a gambler, but things changed when he met an unnamed woman whose last name was Fushiguro, with whom he fell in love. The two of them married, and Tōji discarded his Zen’in name and took her name, thus becoming Toji Fushiguro. The couple had one child, Megumi, who had a high potential of manifesting cursed energy. Now, the marriage was seemingly happy, as Toji gave up his job and gambling to be with his family.

Things changed when Megumi’s mother unexpectedly died when Toji stopped caring for his son and returned to his old habits. During this period, he even met with Naobito Zenin to tell him that he would sell his son to the Zenin family if the boy’s cursed energy manifested itself.

But, his private life would change once again, as he would meet an unnamed woman who would become his second wife. That woman already had a child, a girl named Tsumiki, who was just a bit older than Megumi and who, after their respective parents married, became her step-brother at that point. Not long after that, their parents disappeared, and the two siblings had only one another.

We know what happened to Toji, but the fate of Tsumiki’s mother was never revealed. Near the end of Gojo’s Past Arc, we see that the two of them are living together and that a young, grumpy Megumi is taking care of Tsumiki, caring for her well-being; when Gojo asks him if he wants to go to his real family, the Zenin, Megumi first asked if Tsumiki would be happy there, and when Gojo said she would not, he declined. This showed that he cared for her a lot because he would have accepted going to the Zenin if that meant that Tsumiki would be happy in the end.

But, while it seemed that Megumi took care of her, it wasn’t always like that, as Tsumiki would often have to check up on him because he was getting into fights. Both of them went to the same Saitama Urami East Junior High.

While she was a third-year, she and a group of her friends went to Yasohachi Bridge, where an incident happened in which she was cursed, which is what we find out at the beginning of the story, when it was revealed that Megumi had a “sick” sister that he had to take care off. She was in a coma and had a weird chain of events not happened. She probably would have remained in a coma for some time.

But, Pseudo-Geto, actually Kenjaku, had other plans for her, and he used his Uzumaki technique to take Mahito’s Idle Transformation technique, which was a technique that gave cursed energy to non-sorcerers, turning them into sorcerers, and then imbue Tsumiki with cursed energy to make her into a future vessel; all of this happened before the infamous Shibuya Incident. This, of course, gave Tsumiki additional energy, and she awoke from her coma, but based on what Kenjaku said, she had a mission to fulfill, so her “recovery” wasn’t really all that.

So, what happened later? Well, we never really saw much of Tsumiki in the story – she was always a secondary character, but because she was so closely related to Megumi and his story, her story always lingered there as an unanswered question, and it was during the Culling Game Arc that we actually saw her again. Namely, due to becoming a sorcerer against her own will, she was also – against her own will – dragged into the Culling Game, as Kenjaku used her as a vessel for a powerful ancient sorceress called Yorozu.

At the same time, Sukuna had taken over Megumi’s body, and in order to completely crush his spirit and his resistance, he targeted Tsumiki, knowing that Megumi loved her very much.

But, Yorozu, the sorceress in Tsumiki’s body, was both powerful and obsessed with Sukuna, so a fight ensued between the two siblings, whose bodies had been “stolen” by two powerful entities. What happened? Well, you probably can deduce for yourselves, but since this is not an article about Tsumiki’s fate, we shall not reveal any further details about this fight. It was an epic one, we have to say, but if you want to know what happened, either read the manga or wait for our article on the topic. You know who Tsumiki was, and you also know what roughly happened to her and how she is related to Megumi and his story in Jujutsu Kaisen, and since that was the topic of this article, we’ll just leave it at that.
