Jujutsu Kaisen: Where Is Gojo From & Where Did He Live as a Child?

Satoru Gojo is not the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, but he is, by all standards, its strongest and most popular persona. Regardless of Akutami’s hatred for him, Gojo deserves praise as he is one of the franchise’s best-written characters. But, despite all of that, as well as all of the love he’s been getting from the fans, Satoru Gojo is still a very mysterious figure, as Akutami never really bothered to answer all of our questions. In this article, we at Fiction Horizon, inspired by the most recent episode of the anime series, will tell you about Gojo’s past as you will find out where Gojo is from and where he lived as a child.

Officially, it has not been confirmed where Gojo was born and where he lived as a child; we haven’t really seen much of Gojo’s childhood, save for the scene in which Toji visited him. Since he went to school in Tokyo and Toji is from Tokyo as well, it can be assumed that he was born and spent his childhood in Tokyo. But, his family are direct descendants of the vengeful spirit Sugawara no Michizane, who was based in Fukuoka, so it is not impossible that the Gojo family actually has its roots in Fukuoka, but it is unlikely that Gojo himself ever lived there.

This article will focus solely on Gojo and his personal life, as well as his family, i.e., the origins of his family and where they actually come from. You’ll learn all the known and relevant facts related to Satoru Gojo and his family, which will help you better understand the situation. Gojo was probably born and raised in Tokyo, but his family might actually stem from Fukuoka

Satoru Gojo is a character that does not need any particular introduction, but his story does merit some of your time. So, before we go back to the past, let us tell you a bit about the present so that you can understand why Gojo is so focused here on Fiction Horizon and why he is so often a topic of discussion around the Internet.

In the prequel manga Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Satororu Gojo made his debut while pleading with his superiors to let Yuta Okkotsu enroll in the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College; this scene was identical to the beginning of the main series, which is when he pleaded for Itadori’s case as well.

Later, he takes over as his teacher and introduces him to his group of students, including Panda, Toge Inumaki, and Maki Zenin. Later, as his former friend, Suguro Geto, is revealed to be the prequel’s main villain, Gojo engages Miguel, a curse user on Geto’s side, in combat and successfully defeats him.

Gojo visits the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College to confront Geto after all of his allies have been vanquished, and Yuta has defeated him. Gojo debates with Geto before engaging in one final conversation with him before killing him out of necessity.

He then introduces himself properly to Yuta and tells him that he is a distant relative. When the curse of Rika, Yuta’s deceased friend, is lifted, Gojo says that it was Yuta who cursed her and congratulated him on exorcising her. He then sends him abroad to train to become a sorcerer.

As for Jujutsu Kaisen, his first assignment was to kill Yuji Itadori after he became Sukuna’s vessel. However, Gojo can put off his execution until the demon’s fingers have all been ingested. As a result, He becomes his teacher, which is the same thing he did with Yuta. Gojo learns during the struggle in Shibuya that his friend Geto’s dead body is under the influence of a curse, the powerful Kenjaku. He engages Kenjaku, but before he can get his answers and defeat him, Gojo is imprisoned in the Prison Realm by Kenjaku.

But, while he was sealed away, he made sure Itadori was safe by asking Yuta to intervene if anything happened to him, which Yuta did. After being defeated, Gojo is expelled from the jujutsu community after being identified as a party to the Shibuya Incident. He will later be released and is currently, as of the time of writing this article, engaged in a fight against Sukuna.

So, this is Gojo’s story in short. Now that you know that he is an exceptionally important character, we can talk about the main topic of this article, which is actually Gojo’s family and, in a way, his past. What inspired us to do this?

Well, a particular scene from Episode 3 of Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen, in which a young Gojo is seen, probably with his mother, walking while Toji Fushiguro is watching him; Gojo managed to see Toji, which surprised the sorcerer assassin and what is how he knew that Gojo was genuinely dangerous. So, where did that scene take place, and where does Gojo come from?

We must say that Akutami left us with almost no information about Gojo’s past. We know that he is part of the Gojo family, which is a longstanding sorcerer family in the lore, but he is its only known member; we know that Yuta Okkutsu is a distant relative of his, as both their families stem from the vengeful spirit Michizane Sugawara, who was based on the real-life Michizane no Sugawara.

They are not part of the same family, but they are related. And this is, basically, everything we know about the Gojo family – nothing else has been revealed in the series. They are an influential family, but we have no details to work with. This is why everything we will say here is based on our conclusions rather than precise facts from the canon.

So, we know that Satoru Gojo attended the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College and that he has, since 2006, at least, been living in Tokyo. We also know that the Zenin family, to which Toji belongs, is based in Tokyo, and as far as we know, Toji also lived in Tokyo his whole life. So, based on these facts, we can deduce that the scene in which Toji visited a young Gojo, who was walking with his mother, took place in Tokyo.

We couldn’t identify which part of Tokyo, but it probably occurred there. This means that Gojo was probably born in Tokyo, as nothing would hint at another potential location.

But, the real Michizane no Sugawara, who is an ancestor of Gojo’s, was based in Fukuoka, and although he died a long time ago, and Akutami never actually made any references to that fact, it could very well be that the Gojo family stems from Fukuoka, but, sadly, Akutami never confirmed or denied that.
