Minecraft: Here’s What 2b2t Is & How To Join

Share:

Minecraft was released in 2009 and then again, officially in 2011, but multiplayer Minecraft has been around since its first release, specifically since May 31st, 2009. It wasn’t until August of 2010 that survival multiplayer was released. Why is this important, and what does it have to do with 2b2t? What is 2b2t, really?

  • Article Breakdown:
  • 2b2t stands for 2builders2tools and is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, Minecraft servers to date. What’s special about it is that it’s an anarchy server, and there are seemingly almost no rules.
  • Many will say it’s a well-known server where you can hack, but much of 2b2t and its history remains a mystery.

Server types explained

Anarchy server – Anarchy servers are servers with no rules or very few rules. Within those servers, you can grief, hack and say anything you want. There are no chat restrictions, so there’s a big chance that anarchy servers are some of the most toxic Minecraft servers, and 2b2t falls in this category.

PvP server – PvP servers are pretty self-explanatory. These servers allow you to participate in fights against other players that can get pretty intense. They are ruthless, and you’ll rarely get a second chance. Some say that part of the fun is risking losing items that took you hours or days to obtain.

Faction serverFactions is a well-known plugin in Minecraft, but many still don’t know what the plugin is. With the faction Plugin, the land you claim will get protection around it, but you won’t be claiming it alone. You’ll team up with other players and then either try to survive or attack other factions that have formed on the server.

Creative server – The most friendly bunch are creative servers, where you enter a creative world. You can’t die, and there are limitless possibilities as to what you can build. There’s usually no griefing because all players have a simple and peaceful goal, build and create beautiful structures.

Who runs 2b2t?

Since its conception in 2010, the founders of the 2b2t server remain anonymous to this day. The most prominent founder is Hausemaster, and he is said to be the sole founder, but many have speculated that there are more since.

2b2t also has a king title given to the most notorious players whose contributions made the server better or worse. The first known king was chrisleighton, who was king from 2011 to 2013, and the last known king and the one dubbed the one, and the true king was Pyrobyte, who was the proclaimed king from 2013 to 2015.

Pyrobyte is an ”oldfag” meaning he joined the server in 2010-2012 and has made notable contributions to Valkyria and created many backdoors in his life on the server. After Valkyria was griefed, he started logging on less frequently, whereas, in 2016, he logged in for the final time to build the spawn in the Overworld spawn and the Nether, logged out, and was never seen again.

How big is 2b2t?

I can’t tell you about the size of 2b2t, but perhaps the sheer waiting list can help. 2b2t is a popular server, and many want the chance to play on it, so if you were to try and log in on the server now, you’d likely be hit with a 7-hour waiting list. If you’re curious about how many players are active on the server, the number is insane – 733.000 players. As a whole, the file size of 2b2t is 14.2 terabytes.

Can you join 2b2t?

You certainly can join but waiting in the queue will take up a lot of your time, and you won’t have a nice experience once you finally enter the server because spawn is a dangerous place, and you should run as far as you can from it when you first join the server. There is a way to skip the long queue, however.

Official bypass of the queue – The only official bypass is to become a donator and purchase priority queue. Many players purchase priority queue, so the wait might still be long. You’ll have to spend 20 USD on the priority queue list. The priority queue was given to all veteran players who joined before June 1st, 2016. The purchase of a priority queue will get you there for a full month. But I suggest you first wait it out and see for yourself how the server feels and breathes before purchasing something.

Unofficial bypass of the queue – As of right now, there is no unofficial working way to bypass the long queue to enter 2b2t. You are allowed to try and make it work yourself, however, since it is a server that allows you to hack and do whatever you want. If you’re a tech wizard ready to be recognized, knock yourself out and try to bypass the queue.

The rules

Even though 2b2t is pure anarchy and there are seemingly no rules on the server, over the years, many unspoken rules have been set that players should follow or not follow at their own risk, so here they are:

  1. The ones who don’t ask shall receive – this refers to player gear. If someone is kind enough to give you some new player gear, you’ll only receive it if you don’t ask for it. So don’t ask other players for gear; it is frowned upon and considered very disrespectful.
  2. Don’t mess with highways – Highways are a blessing on 2b2t as they allow players to get to places where it would otherwise be difficult to get, especially from spawn. The highways are usually made of Obsidian.
  3. Don’t mess with signs – Don’t grief signs, and don’t change their text.
  4. Don’t ask to join a group – you won’t join the group; you’ll die and go back to spawn where you had a dozen of those miserable experiences before you even found a group you’d want to join. Joining a group is something you earn by proving yourself to be worthy.
  5. Don’t trust anyone – The only rule to follow is don’t trust anyone, no matter how nice they seem.

Server members throughout its history

The limit for how many players 2b2t can hold is 200 because it is a single server instance, not a network which means that all players can interact with each other at all times, but the limit is 200. That doesn’t mean that 2b2t has only 200 active players because it became extremely popular in 2017 and remains that way in 2022, so let’s see how the player number has changed throughout the years.

2011 – 2012 – There were 50-80 players on the server back then. The player base was mostly for 4chan and Facepunch.
2012 – 2014 -The player numbers dropped significantly to less than 20 during this period, but the remaining players formed allegiances.
2014 – 2015 – Another influx of players. There were around 15-50 back then. Groups began to form, and player-driven events started happening.
2016 – 50 – 60 players remain. Many left during this year because a lot of bases were griefed.
2017 – Present day – Youtubers began making content on 2b2t, and the server’s limit has been reached for how many players the server can hold.
