Welcome to the Ending Explained for Star Wars: Visions, Season 2, Episode 8, titled “The Pit.” Star Wars Visions is an anthology series that gathers the best animation studios in the world as they work to create new and exciting tales in the Star Wars Universe. The second season arrives just in time for May 4th, which is also known as Star Wars Day. “The Pit” might be the weakest short film of the entire second season, both in terms of writing and animation quality. LeAndre Thomas directs the short, while D’Art Shtajio, and LucasFilm animate it.

The episode begins by showing us a dog chain that is walking through the desert. A group of Stormtroopers accompanies the train of slaves. These people have fallen into bad luck and have been made slaves. More and more slaves arrive to dig the desert. Their goal is to find the famous kyber crystals. The crystals are some of the most valuable treasures in the entire galaxy, and once they were the crystals that gave the Jedi and Sith lightsabers their distinct colors.

The work conditions are terrible, and more and more slaves fall exhausted to the ground. It doesn’t seem like the Stormtrooper commander cares very much for the slaves, and he keeps pushing them to dig more and more. They finally find one kyber crystal, and soon after, a slave destroys its weapon by trying to dig into the ground. That is the sign that they have reached the end of the vein, and there is nothing more to dig. The commander frees the slaves from their chains but leaves everyone at the bottom of the pit.

It seems the slaves are doomed to live and die inside the pit. They talk about possible strategies, and one of them assures the group that he can climb to the top and look for help. The next morning he does, and with the help of the nearby fauna, he manages to get to the top. He runs into the city, looking for help, but no one listens to him. Stormtroopers capture him and throw him back into the pit, to his death. The slaves see no other way out, but a little girl says they should chant, “Follow the light.” They do it, which somehow brings the city’s people to them.

The people confront the Stormtroopers and take the slaves out of the pit. It is all very mysterious, but it seems like the climber’s sacrifice was not in vain. As the short closes, we see the young girl with a kyber crystal in her hand. The crystal begins to levitate and turns into a powerful blue color. This signifies that the girl is a force user and possibly a Jedi in the making.
