The Matrix is an American science-fiction media franchise created by The Wachowskis with the first movie released in 1999 called The Matrix. So far, The Matrix franchise consists of several films, anime, video games, comic books, and forms of media. The Matrix takes place in a reality where advanced artificial intelligence became self-aware and managed to trap humans in a virtual reality system known as The Matrix. The Matrix is designed to simulate real life and to keep people docile while they are being farmed. The story primarily follows Neo and his efforts to free humanity from artificial intelligence.
