Jujutsu Kaisen: Does Yuji Itadori Kill Mahito? Here Is What Happened!
The battles of Jujutsu Kaisen have attracted a lot of attention, and fans praise their execution and complexity, both in the manga and the anime series. Each of the arcs had some major battles, but the Shibuya Incident Arc has – so far – given us a set of amazing ones, and after Jogo’s epic clash with Sukuna, we can shift to the battle between Yuji and Mahito. Seeing Nanami’s death, Yuji charged Mahito without thinking, and the battle is heating up. Will Yuji be able to kill Mahito? Here is what happened in this epic clash!
Mahito and Yuji had a very thrilling and complex fight
So, we’re back in Shibuya, where both groups have suffered losses. Kenjaku’s group lost Dagon, Hanami, and Jogo. At the same time, the sorcerers saw Megumi heavily injured, Sukuna taking over and breaking Yuji, and Maki, Nanami, and Naobito being severely injured by Jogo. The half-burned Nanami is walking through Shibuya when he faces a group of transformed humans. He is soon greeted by Mahito, who wants to chat. At the same time, Itadori arrives at the same place, and as Mahito realizes that, he kills Nanami in cold blood.
Yuji is shocked and furious and decides to engage Mahito in a fight, which Mahito also wants. The thing is – Yuji can attack Mahito’s soul directly, which means that he is, technically, able to defeat and kill Mahito. But, despite his powers, Mahito has another trick up his sleeve. Namely – Yuji’s emotional state.
Knowing that Yuji was not the calmest and most logical fighter, Mahito intentionally wanted to provoke him, believing that he could defeat the boy more easily if Yuji was angry. That is why he tried to provoke Yuji’s anger, but the boy saw through it, and while he was initially furious, he remembered his friends and kept calming himself down, which enabled him to both avoid Mahito’s advances and to deal some damage to the vile Cursed Spirit.
And while, on a general level, Mahito is certainly the stronger one among the two, Yuji is the protagonist and while that is not really a guarantee in Jujutsu Kaisen, he was definitely protected by a plot armor so early in the story. So, what happened? Yuji was set on killing Mahito, and he was able to deal some damage. Did Yuji kill him in the end?
Yuji will not kill Mahito, in fact, Yuji would have died had Aoi not intervened
Well, while he was fighting Mahito in the subway, Yuji did not know that Mahito had a clone who was – at the same time – fighting against Nobara in an alley above them. Mahito’s clone had the same abilities as the original. Still, since Nobara’s technique could also harm his soul, the damage done to the clone resonated with the original body.
This is when Mahito realizes he is in trouble, and the two clones decide to get closer, which also unites Yuji and Nobara. Yuji was in a good place then, but Mahito used a trick. Namely, as the two bodies rushed towards one another, Yuji believed that they were going to unite, but he was confused when the two of them simply ran past one another; this is when one of the bodies managed to touch the left side of Nobara’s face, which soon exploded and seemingly killed Nobara. (Her fate is still up in the air, officially.)
And you can imagine how this affected Yuji. First of all, he had to bear the burden of everyone killed by Sukuna while the latter was controlling his body. Secondly, he had witnessed Mahito kill Nanami, who was his dear friend and mentor.
Finally, he supposedly witnessed the death of Nobara, his friend. And as you can imagine, Itadori was completely broken. He was broken both physically and mentally, and the fight itself did not last much longer. Yuji was down, and Mahito was about to deliver the final blow when Aoi Todo’s arrival saved Yuji.
The two fought Mahito and were on the brink of defeating him, but they did not kill him. At that moment, Kenjaku arrived, and he used Geto’s ability to absorb Mahito, who was a Curse Spirit, wanting to preserve his special ability (although, if the manga doesn’t surprise us again, this wasn’t of much use to him, Akutami’s making such a mess out of the story that we really cannot predict anything), and that is how Mahito died.
