James Gunn Confirms Timeline Adjustments in DCU Project Production
When ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ came out, the DCEU was wrapped up and Gunn and Safran’s DCU took its place. For a long time, we’ve known that the DCU will follow the MCU’s lead, organizing its movies into phases or “chapters.” The first chapter in the DCU is called ‘Gods & Monsters.’ The first release in ‘Gods & Monsters’ will be ‘Creature Commandos,’ but Gunn has said ‘Superman: Legacy’ will actually kick off the new DCU unofficially.
Clearly, ‘Creature Commandos’ has to be finished first so it can come out before ‘Superman.’ But for the other projects, Gunn recently shared on ‘Threads’ a new schedule for the projects coming after the Superman movie. The latest news is that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 will be filmed at the same time as ‘Superman,’ and ‘Waller’ will start right after that. Gunn also made it clear that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 happens after ‘Superman,’ and ‘Waller’ happens after ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2. This is a big shift because the project was first introduced as ‘Peacemaker’ Season 1.5 and was meant to be a prequel.

The increased focus on ‘Peacemaker’ isn’t unexpected, given Gunn’s repeated praise for the project as one of his favorites. He’s diving into it right after finishing ‘Superman.’ Gunn also clarified that while Season 2 is part of the DCU, Season 1 isn’t canon to this new cinematic universe. However, he assured fans that there will be an explanation within the universe for this, ensuring everything fits together smoothly.
