‘Agatha All Along’ Confirms Mephisto’s Existence in the MCU
The third episode of Agatha All Along recently premiered, bringing a wave of revelations. Firstly, it confirmed that Agatha likely sacrificed her son to obtain the Darkhold.
Secondly, it revealed that a sigil was deliberately placed on Teen to prevent him from disclosing his identity. Lastly, it appears that Agatha has her suspicions about Teen’s true identity but is reluctant to share them at this time.
The fourth revelation in the series is that the notorious Mephisto exists within the MCU, and it’s about time, considering the ongoing exploration of witchcraft and supernatural elements.
Mephisto is a demon and a lord of a realm known as Hell (though not directly analogous to the Christian Hell). His character is frequently likened to figures like Satan, as he represents temptation, evil, and manipulation. Typically, Mephisto appears as a humanoid with red skin, pointed ears, and a devilish look, often characterized by sharp teeth and horns.
While the show hasn’t provided a first glimpse of Mephisto, Jennifer Kale, the potion witch, confirmed his existence. During her conversation with Teen, she warned him not to trust Agatha and revealed that Agatha might have sacrificed her son for the Darkhold.
Jennifer further implied that Agatha’s son could be anyone, including Mephisto’s agent.
Even prior to the show’s release, fans speculated about Mephisto’s potential appearance or at least a reference. One theory suggested that Mephisto cast the sigil on Teen due to a possible deal between them.
Another theory posited that Rio Vidal might actually be Blackheart, Mephisto’s gender-bent daughter.
In the comics, Billy Maximoff was resurrected alongside his brother Tommy using fragments of lost souls belonging to Mephisto. Scarlet Witch manipulated these evil souls to create her sons.
The MCU might adopt a similar narrative, with Teen potentially being Nicholas Scratch, whom Agatha allegedly gave to Mephisto for the Darkhold, or he could turn out to be Billy Maximoff, revived by Mephisto.
Regardless, it’s thrilling to have this character in the MCU, and we eagerly await his live-action debut.
