Attack on Titan: Here Is Eren Yeager’s Kill Count

The start of the Rumbling in Attack on Titan was the signal of the end for the entire storyline and the rest of the people living all over the world outside of Paradis Island. Eren Yeager’s goal was to trample the entire world with the power of the Wall Titans so that he could keep Paradis Island safe from those that hated the Eldians while also forcing his friends to kill him so that the Power of the Titans would be erased from the world.
Of course, the one thing that we already knew was that countless people would die due to the Rumbling, as hundreds of thousands of Wall Titans trampled different cities and countries worldwide in such a short period. That means Eren has one of the highest kill counts in anime history. Let’s look at how many people Eren killed in Attack on Titan.
How Many People Did Eren Kill?
When the storyline of Attack on Titan started, we already knew that a lot of people were going to die, especially at the hands of the titans, who mercilessly and mindlessly slaughtered and ate people hiding behind the walls of what initially thought was the final semblance of civilization in the world. Of course, Eren Yeager and his friends decided to join the Survey Corps to defeat the titans and discover what was behind these mindless creatures’ mystery.
In that regard, Eren found out that he could transform into a titan, which allowed him to become the greatest asset on the part of humanity in its fight against the Titans. As such, Eren killed countless titans during his time as the Attack Titan. But we also learned during the earlier part of the storyline that the titans were humans forced to transform into these mindless creatures. Essentially, Eren and his comrades were killing people by killing titans.
Then again, things turned darker when Eren and the people of Paradis Island discovered that they were not the last remnants of humanity. That’s because there were entire cities and civilizations beyond the island, meaning millions or even billions of people living across the ocean. And these were people that Eren wanted to kill because they were responsible for sending mindless titans to Paradis.
Eren hatched a plan that allowed him to keep the people of Paradis Island safe from the wrath of the rest of the world while ensuring that the Power of the Titans would disappear from the world. Using the power of the Founding Titan, which he always had but was only able to control through Zeke Yeager’s royal blood, Eren launched the Rumbling, which is an event that involved the titans that made up the walls of Paradis Island to wake up and march on the rest of the world.
Standing around 50 meters, these mindless titans emitted steam that was so hot that everything in their path burned. Eren allowed hundreds of thousands of these Wall Titans to march to the world’s different nations while leading them in his monstrous Founding Titan form. As such, he decided to trample the rest of the world to keep Paradis Island safe and to force his friends to kill him to eradicate the Power of the Titans.
In the manga, the plan was successful but at the cost of countless lives that became victims of the effects of the Rumbling that Eren launched. However, just how many lives did Eren kill during the events of Attack on Titan?
It is estimated that Eren killed a total of 23 mindless titans. These titans were still people, so they still go into his kill count. Nevertheless, the number of mindless titans that Eren killed pales compared to the number of people he killed.
At the end of the storyline in the manga, it was estimated that the Rumbling killed 80% of the world’s population. That means that Eren spared only 20% of the people in the world during his rampage. Of course, we don’t know how many people were in the world then because the storyline of Attack on Titan never gave an exact number in terms of the world’s population.
But we can make an estimation based on our real-world population. The setting of Attack on Titan is a world and timeline different from ours, but it resembles the early 1900s because the world relied on steam technology, and airplanes were not even used then. As such, the storyline of Attack on Titan may take place in a period that’s somewhere between the 1900s to the 1920s if we convert its timeline to our real-world timeline.
During the 1920s, around 2 billion people were living in the world. So, if there were also around 2 billion people living in the universe of Attack on Titan, that would mean that Eren killed 80% of that population. And we can estimate that number to be around 1.6 billion people, which means that Eren’s kill count is over 1.6 billion people due to the effects of the Rumbling.
Does Eren Have the Highest Kill Count in Anime History?
We now know that, based on estimations, Eren Yeager possibly killed around 1.6 billion people worldwide. This is a number that’s nothing to scoff at. After all, killing billions of people would already make Eren the biggest mass murderer in history if he lived in the real world. But does that mean that Eren has the highest kill count in anime history?
Well, the thing about anime is that some storylines tend to be over the top regarding how crazy their kill counts are. Some anime characters were responsible for the deaths of entire planets and even universes. That would mean that Eren’s kill count would pale in comparison to the kill counts of other anime characters.
Boros of One Punch Man also killed billions of people during his time because he traveled from one planet to another to cause mass genocide. That means that he killed more people than Eren did.
But the Dragon Ball characters are even more over-the-top in their kill count. Frieza is responsible for the destruction of numerous planets during his run. His most famous genocide was when he caused the near-extinction of the Saiyan race after destroying planet Vegeta. There’s also the fact that Kid Buu went from one planet to another to blow them up in an instant. But Beerus, as the God of Destruction of Universe 7 for millions of years, destroyed countless planets that he needed to destroy to preserve the universe’s balance.
In that regard, while Eren’s kill count is insane if we compare it to real-world standards, it has nothing on the kill counts of other anime characters because some anime storylines are simply too over-the-top in terms of how powerful their characters are.
