Demon Slayer: Who Is Sekido? Meet Hantengu’s Anger Demon

The storyline of Demon Slayer’s Swordsmith Village arc is now starting to unfold, especially with the appearance of Hantengu in the Swordsmith Village. The action immediately picked up when Muichiro didn’t waste time decapitating the demon, who ended up splitting into different clones of himself. One of those clones was Sekido, whose power was on full display immediately. So, who is Sekido?
Sekido is one of the four clones of Hantengu and represents his anger. As such, Sekido has a sour and angry disposition compared to all of the other clones. He also possesses a Blood Demon Art that allows him to generate lightning from his weapon to stun or paralyze his opponents.
The biggest problem that Tanjiro and the other Demon Slayers have in the Swordsmith Village arc is Hantengu’s different clones, as they are all quite powerful in their own right and are at the level of an Upper-Rank demon. In that regard, Sekido is one of the most challenging of all of the different clones that Hantengu was able to produce. That said, let’s look at what we know about Sekido.
Sekido’s Background Explained
In episode 3 of the Swordsmith Village arc of Demon Slayer, we finally saw the demons infiltrating the secret Swordsmith Village that not even the Demon Slayer Corps can locate. In that regard, Hantengu was the first to attack the Demon Slayers as he charged into Tanjiro and Muichiro head-on. And, of course, Muichiro was quick to decapitate the demon, only for him to realize that Hantengu could create clones whenever his head was decapitated.
One of the first two demons created when Hantengu was decapitated was Sekido. The thing about Sekido is that, like all of the other four demons Hantengu can produce whenever his head is sliced off, he is the personification of one of the different emotions Hantengu feels. In that regard, he represents Hantengu’s anger.
The Anger Demon is a fairly tall young adult male with a somewhat muscular build. He has red eyes with the upper-ranking kanji and four engraved into them. Like all other clones, he has prominent curved horns and markings all over his face. Of course, due to his status as the Anger Demon, Sekido wears an angry and enraged expression on his face.
As the manifestation of Hantengu’s anger, Sekido is often irritated as this is clearly seen on his face throughout his entire existence as a character. In fact, he is so angry that he often expresses his anger toward his fellow clones. He gets angry at them whenever they fail to meet his expectations or when Tanjiro and the other Demon Slayers can get the best of them. As such, he is one that easily gets angered and will often show irritation on his face and in his attacks.
While he may work with the other Hantengu clones, Sekido does little to no care about the other clones. He is also the one that is more dominant than the other clones as he is often the one shouting out orders. As such, he appears to be the leader of the four Hantengu clones. He even takes charge in critical portions of the battle against Tanjiro and the Demon Slayers.
Like all other clones, Sekido has physical abilities that exceed most of the other demons. He has the strength and speed of an Upper-Rank demon, although it can be presumed that Hantengu’s overall physical capabilities are divided among the four clones.
Sekido also has a unique Blood Demon Art that allows him to use his Khakkhara to generate lightning that doesn’t damage his opponents greatly but is capable of paralyzing or stunning them almost instantly. When he used this attack on Tanjiro, the young Demon Slayer was about to lose consciousness in a matter of seconds before Genya appeared to save him from this attack.
The only weakness of this attack is that the lightning cannot pass through anything made out of Sekido or Hantengu’s cells, as that was what Tanjiro used in the fight to ensure that Sekido’s attack won’t stun him.
What Happens to Sekido in Demon Slayer?
During the Swordsmith Village arc, Sekido joined forces with his clones to fight the Demon Slayers led by Tanjiro. He was one of the first two clones created after Muichiro decapitated Hantengu. After that, Genya decapitated him and allowed him to produce another clone. As such, the four clones were enough to give Tanjiro, Genya, and Nezuko a tough time.
Mitsuri, the Love Hashira, arrived just in time to make things easier for the Demon Slayers. However, the arrival of Mitsuri prompted Sekido to absorb all of the other clones, even though Aizetsu protested. This allowed him to become Zohakuten, a demon with the ability to use wooden dragon-like monsters meant to keep the miniature version of Hantengu protected the entire time. Zohakuten was more than a match for Mitsuri, who awakened her Demon Slayer mark in that fight.
Tanjiro successfully decapitated the miniature Hantengu, only for him to realize that this was not the real body. As such, Mitsuri decided to fight Zohakuten alone while the other Demon Slayers were out looking for the real Hantengu. Eventually, Tanjiro could locate the headless body of Hantengu and realized that the real head was hiding inside its heart.
With that, the fight ended when Tanjiro sliced the torso of the headless Hantengu. This killed Zohakuten, along with Sekido and the other three clones that he absorbed to create the Hatred Demon.
