Disney Addresses Beau DeMayo’s Discrimination Accusations: “We severed ties with him immediately”

“X-Men ’97” became a surprise hit for Marvel Studios, largely thanks to Beau DeMayo’s writing and deep knowledge of the original animated series and its source material.
Fans were stunned when DeMayo was fired by the studio just weeks before the first season’s premiere. Both the writer and the studio remained mostly silent on the matter, leaving fans to speculate. Insider reports suggested the firing might have been related to DeMayo’s reputation for being difficult to work with and his non-explicit OnlyFans account.
In recent weeks, DeMayo has begun speaking out against his former employer, accusing them of discriminatory behavior. He revealed that he wasn’t invited to the Emmy Awards, despite his show “X-Men ’97” being nominated. DeMayo also claimed that his writing credits for season 2 were abruptly removed, supposedly because he posted LGBT-themed artwork related to the show.
DeMayo now seems to suggest that Disney has censored him because of his orientation, believing that the removal of his season 2 credits is linked to this. However, Disney has responded, offering a different and troubling perspective on the situation.
“Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel.”
After DeMayo’s departure from Marvel, an agreement was reached concerning his tweets about the show. However, breaches of this agreement led to his season two credits being removed. While the exact reasons for his termination remain unclear, sources indicate that sexual misconduct may have been involved.
DeMayo, once praised for his active social media presence and celebrated as a prominent gay Marvel writer, likely lost his credit due to deeper issues uncovered by an internal investigation, rather than just his online activity. DeMayo has not yet commented on the matter.
