In this article, you’re going to find out everything you need to know about Asa Mitaka and whether she is a Fiend or a Hybrid. Let’s see who Asa Mitaka really is in Chainsaw Man.
Asa Mitaka is a high school student in Chainsaw Man that became a host for the War Devil. Asa Mitaka is a Fiend. The characters itself was introduced in the second part of the manga taking on the role of a villain.
Now that you know the short answer it’s time to analyze Asa Mitaka’s appearance in the Chainsaw Man manga and her status as a conduit for War Devil. Let’s see how this new villain fits into the story.
Who is Asa Mitaka in Chainsaw Man?
Asa Mitaka is a high school student who became the host of the War Devil. She was first introduced in the second part of the manga. Asa is a high school girl of average build and height. She has brown eyes and black hair that is sometimes dyed purple. Her hair is just past her shoulder length, and before the War Devil possessed her, she wore her hair in two pigtails. Asa Mitaka is one of the most interesting female characters in Chainsaw Man.
After becoming a devil, her hair is down. She also has a scar on her face and left cheek, and her eyes have a spiral pattern similar to Makima’s. She wears the same school uniform as the rest of the girls in her class.
The uniform consists of a long-sleeved button-down shirt worn under an apron-style dress with a pleated skirt that extends to just below the knee, a bow at the neck, a wide belt at the waist, and black knee-high socks. knee. She also wears sneakers.
Is Asa Mitaka a Fiend or a Hybrid?
Asa Mitaka is a Fiend. A Fiend is a Devil that has taken over the body of a human. Fiends have the personality of the being who took possession of the corpse. They can be easily identified due to their heads having distinct shapes, such as Power’s horns, or the Chapter 4 Devil that had pincers in its face.
On the other hand, Hybrids are humans who have the ability to take the form of a Devil and it happens very rarely that a human can merge with a Devil; furthermore, the only known method to become a Hybrid is through a contract. Hybrids have human appearance and consciousness, but can transform into human-devil hybrids and manifest the supernatural abilities of their respective fused devils.
They are indistinguishable from normal humans as opposed to Fiends, as long as they don’t transform into devils. The official name of the Hybrids was erased by the Chainsaw Devil, however, the hybrids continue to exist despite being erased for unknown reasons.
Knowing this, we can easily deduce that Asa Mitaka is a Fiend. She cannot actually transform into the War Devil, but the War Devil has taken possession of her body and is part of her. This means that she can manifest his powers and in the next paragraph, we are going to explain these powers and abilities.
What are Asa Mitaka’s powers and abilities?
Asa Mitaka has the ability to read War Devil’s mind and she can witness the events happening around her as a ghost while she is under control of the War Devil. Moments before Asa’s death, the War Devil made a contract with her where they jointly share control of Mitaka’s body. To make this possible, the War Devil left only one-half of Asa’s brain intact, which, however, does not cause any special problems for the girl. Apparently, the transfer of control over the body can only occur at the request of the War Devil.
The War Devil also has the ability to read Mitaka’s mind, but it doesn’t seem like the girl can do the same for the devil. When one of them controls the body, the other remains to observe what is happening as an outside observer and is felt only by the controlling side, while not being able to physically interact with the environment. With the destruction of Chainsaw Man, the contract will be terminated and Mitaka will regain control of her body.
Up to this point, the War Devil can completely take over Mitaka’s brain and guide her body alone, however, she considers such an outcome undesirable and is ready to resort to it only as a last resort. When the War Devil replaces Mitaka, the girl gets scars on her face and the characteristic eyes of the War Devil. In this state, Mitaka exhibits the traits of a fiend: she has a deformed head and no control over her body.
After they change back, the resulting appearance attributes disappear. It is unknown if they exist in reality or only in Mitaka’s mind. In “hallucination” form, the War Devil appears as Mitaka with flowing hair, demonic eyes, and facial scars; in the same form, Mitaka’s appearance does not change in any way.
The ability to observe what is happening as a “ghost” while the Devil controls her body did not appear immediately for Mitaka. Apparently, she was absent during the murder of the head girl and the school teacher, but at home, she remembers this event after being reminded by the Devil.
What is Asa Mitaka like?
Asa Mitaka is a sullen and introverted girl who rejects the possibility of friendship with anyone in favor of her studies. She doesn’t like Devils and, unlike her classmates, wanted the Chicken Devil dead. It is worth noting that this hostility was rather superficial: when Bucky called the girl by name, she quickly imbued her with much warmer feelings.
In a conversation with a classmate, the girl talks about the depravity of their city, which betrays her thoughtful, gloomy nature. She dislikes Chainsaw Man and says she wishes him dead; apparently, she considers him a hypocrite. Perhaps Asa is jealous of his popularity. Deep down, Asa is an insecure, shy girl who is tired of being in the shadows.
Her irritation and antipathy toward her classmates stem from the envy she feels toward them. Asa Mitaka dreams of making friends and, in her wildest fantasies, even a boyfriend. The girl is not afraid of death and to some extent strives for it: according to her, if someone from her class needs to be sent to death, she will vote for herself.
In the last moments of her human life, Asa is relieved that she is not responsible for the death of Bucky, and sadly notes that she would like to live a slightly more selfish life. After the incident with Bucky, Asa began to experience severe social anxiety, to the point that death at the hands of a Devil seemed to be a better option for her than being in the same room with her classmates.
