Does Kawaki Have the Jōgan, Rinnegan, or Sharingan?
Kawaki is a young boy redeemed and raised by the leader of Kara, with the sole purpose of being the future receptacle of Isshiki Ôtsutsuki, thus becoming the key to their project. After being brought to Konoha by Team 7, he was taken in by Naruto Uzumaki who raises him as his own son, during which he develops a brotherly bond with Boruto Uzumaki to solve the mystery of Kama. In this article, we are going to tell you something about his powers, as you are going to find out whether Kawaki has the Jōgan, Rinnegan, or Sharingan.
Interestingly enough, while he is powerful and has some formidable skills, Kawaki – as far as it is known now – does not have either the Jōgan, the Rinnegan, or the Sharingan. This might change in the future, but as it stands now, the only Dōjutsu he knows is Isshiki’s unnamed Dōjutsu, which he is able to use thanks to Isshiki’s Kāma.
The rest of this article will further elaborate on Kawaki’s powers and abilities, as we are going to explain why he does not possess any of the above-mentioned techniques. The article is going to contain some spoilers about Kawaki and his powers and abilities, so be prepared, although we’re not going to reveal too many plot-related details.
Does Kawaki have the Jōgan?
We’ll start off by explaining what the Jōgan is before we actually reveal whether Kawaki has it. This is something, as you are going to see, that we are going to do with each technique, as this is how we have decided to structure our text. The Jōgan is a unique Kekkei Genkai, which could be a kind of intermediate stage between Byakugan and Tenseigan and thus of course primarily works like a Byakugan, but can be used even more precisely and adeptly. Visually, it also looks very similar to the Tenseigan, but has fewer colors and more white-blue luminescent tones.
In addition, upon activation, the sclera turns black and the iris and pupil begin to glow white, clearly distinguishing it from the other two techniques. So far, only Boruto Uzumaki has managed to awaken the Jougan in his right eye, so nothing is known about what it could do if it were in both eyes. The Jōgan allows the user first and foremost, similar to the Byakugan, to see the opponent’s Keirakukei, which is why the Tenketsu can also be targeted and blocked here, so it is therefore very likely possible to learn Juuken.
The special feature of this Dōjutsu, however, is that you can not only recognize the chakra flow and the chakra points, but you can even guess the emotions and intentions from them. In addition, the Jougan not only allows limited insight through barriers, as would be the case with the Byakugan, for example but also allows the user to be able to see through them into other dimensions, provided that they have their origin in another dimension. The Jougan also activates unconsciously when the user is in immediate danger.
As far as the Jōgan is concerned, we know that it is a unique eye technique introduced in Boruto and so far, its only known user is Boruto Uzumaki. It is not known how the Jōgan is transferred to other users nor whether it is actually possible, so as things stand now, Kawaki neither has, nor can have the Jōgan. This might also change in the future, but that depends on what Kishimoto decides later on. The conclusion is that this is a technique that is strictly tied to Boruto Uzumaki at the time and it does not seem likely that other characters will have it, save for those that might be relevant to the technique’s origins.
Does Kawaki have the Rinnegan?
Like before, we are first going to explain what the Rinnegan is before we actually reveal whether Kawaki has it. The Rinnegan is the most powerful of the three major Dōjutsu, the other two being the Byakugan and the Sharingan, all of which can be traced back to the Ōtsutsuki clan. It is also a Kekkei Genkai, but in contrast to the other two eye arts, it is only awakened extremely rarely and can therefore not be assigned to any clan. However, Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki’s Rin’negan is a Kekkei Mōra.
The Rinnegan grants the caster godlike abilities and is represented as an all-purple eye with circles around the iris. According to legend, it is said to be sent from heaven in times of chaos and its user becomes either a “god of creation” who brings peace to the world or a “destroyer” who reduces the world to nothing. Since it is rarely awakened, almost nothing is known about the circumstances of the same, except that one must be a descendant of Rikudō Sennin, since he was the first to awaken the Kekkei Genkai.
This was possible because Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, his mother, was able to awaken the original Rinne Sharingan beforehand. Madara Uchiha awakened the Rin’negan from its permanent Mangekyō Sharingan shortly before his death. In the Fourth Shinobi World War, he got his eyes back. Nagato got his Rin’negan from Madara Uchiha. However, the exact circumstances of this intervention are not known. Sasuke Uchiha attains the Rinnegan with six tomoe after Rikudō Sennin transfers part of his chakra to him. As with other eye arts, the Rinnegan can also be implanted, as demonstrated by Tobi and Madara in the Fourth Shinobi World War.
The Rinnegan is not a clan-exclusive technique and it can be transplanted onto others. Still, as far as it is known now, Kawaki is not able to use the Rinnegan. Although he is connected to Isshiki Ōtsutsuki through the latter’s Kāma, Isshiki was also not confirmed as a Rinnegan user, which means that Kawaki is not able to use the Rinnegan. Out of all the three, this is the one that Kawaki is most likely to get in the future.
Does Kawaki have the Sharingan?
In the end, allow us to explain what the Sharingan is before we actually tell you what you want to know. The Sharingan is the Kekkei Genkai of the Uchiha clan and one of the three major Dōjutsu, the other two being the Byakugan and the Rinnegan. Along with the Byakugan, it is one of the two major Dōjutsu present in Konohagakure. After activating the jutsu, the owners of the Sharingan have completely red pupils, which, depending on the characteristics, have one to three tomoe. Particularly strong users can further develop the Sharingan into the much stronger Mangekyō Sharingan. It is also called the “Eye of Heaven” due to the many abilities it bestows on the user.
Being a Kekkei Genkai, one must be born as the Sharingan’s blood heir; yet, since it must be awakened first, it is not immediately available to the owner. This occurs either when the user is in danger, when they are confronted with an impasse, or when they are under a lot of emotional strain. The Sharingan can then be turned on or off as needed after that. It is also possible to transplant an already awakened Sharingan into a non-Uchiha or even an animal, but this renders the Sharingan inoperable and significantly raises the non-normal Uchiha’s rate of chakra consumption.
In truth, Danzō Shimura has most of his eleven eyes sealed, while Kakashi Hatake frequently ends up in the hospital for using his Sharingan excessively. Having the Senju clan’s genes implanted, however, seems to be able to reverse the increased chakra consumption, albeit these are also exceedingly challenging to control. A skilled user like Itachi Uchiha was even able to leave his Sharingan in the activated state virtually forever because the consumption seemed to be substantially lower for a Uchiha.

Once activated, the Sharingan is far from fully developed. The number of tomoe, which indicate the performance of the eye, varies depending on the user. With one Tomoe you can only imitate hand or lip movements, with two you can anticipate movements and copy techniques, with three Tomoe the Sharingan is fully developed and these skills can be increased again.
It is also possible to have different levels of Tomoe in both eyes. By murdering a person very close to the user or similarly cruel or traumatizing events, the user can also awaken the much stronger Mangekyō Sharingan, which is only possible with particularly strong Shinobi, but also non-Uchiha. This can be increased to a permanent Mangekyō Sharingan by implanting other Mangekyō Sharingan, which, unlike its predecessor, does not lose any vision and is even stronger. After that, the permanent Mangekyō Sharingan can even be evolved into a Rinnegan.
We have now elaborated that the Sharingan is a technique that is exclusive to the Uchiha clan, meaning that you must either be an Uchiha to use it or be given the Sharingan by an Uchiha. Since Kawaki is not a member of the Uchiha clan and he has not been given the Sharingan by a member of the Uchiha clan, we can confirm that Kawaki cannot use the Sharingan. It is also highly unlikely that he will get it in the future.
