Anime characters appear in all shapes and sizes. They also appear under a variety of names. Some anime characters have first and last names, some have nicknames, some have… well, they are always known as something. In that aspect, it is important to remember all of these names and that is why we have decided to bring you this list. This list is going to contain a list of anime characters that start with the letter J. They will be sorted alphabetically by the names they are known best, whether it is their first name, last name, or their nickname.

1. Jack the Ripper (Fate)

Jack the Ripper is portrayed as a symbol of madness in legend, associating himself with the Berserker class due to this madness. Jack, a unique servant with an unknown identity, communicates with his master, Flat Escardos, through telepathy. Flat senses the magical energy in the command spells but is unable to discern any unique characteristics of the voice, such as gender or age.

Jack possesses the ability to take control of his master and, if not for being summoned as a Berserker, might have unleashed madness upon the area. Expressing surprise at being summoned, Jack acknowledges his lack of heroic power or human morals.

2. Jaden Yuki (Yu-Gi-Oh! GX)

Jaden Yuki is an aspiring duelist from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX with dreams of becoming the “King of Duelists” or the “New Game Master.” He utilizes a “Hero of the Elements” deck, featuring fusion monsters, magic cards, and traps. Despite his lack of academic prowess and frequent class napping, Jaden is an exceptional duelist. In an interesting turn of events, he encountered a copy of Ra, defeated it, and later employed it against a forger in season 2. With the dragon’s agreement, Jaden used Ra to punish the forger, deviating from the norm where forgers are supposed to face the wrath of the dragon.

3. James (Pokémon)

Unlike Jessie, James came from a wealthy family and owned a very young Growlithe. His grandparents take care of Pokémon. But he had to flee his family to avoid a forced marriage with a domineering girl who wanted to change him with whips and to no longer have to put up with aristocratic protocols. He then goes to a school to study Pokémon with Jessie, where they get catastrophic grades.

Shortly after, they join a bicycle gang in which they become the most gifted. Then, he joined Team Rocket with Jessie and Meowth. At the start of the series, he has a Koffing, which then evolves into a Weezinng that he has to release to protect a hunter’s Koffing. He manages to capture a Weepinbell, who later evolves into Victreebell and tries to swallow him whenever he spells it out of his Poké Ball.

4. Jeanne D’Arc (Fate)

Jeanne D’Arc, the renowned female saint from Fate, left her village at seventeen and became a historical figure two years later when she was tragically burned at the stake. Known for miraculously saving France through a military campaign, she can be summoned as a heroic spirit in the Ruler and Saber classes. In the Ruler class, she is a unique Heroic Spirit summoned directly by the Holy Grail to oversee the Grail War. Her identity and information are available to all participating Servants, except for details about the Sovereign, which are confidential and shrouded in secrets. However, in the Great Grail War, some of her abilities are compromised due to the existence of the previous ruler.

5. Jellymon (Digimon Ghost Game)

Kiyoshirō’s partner in Digimon Ghost Game is a versatile Digimon resembling a jellyfish that can transition into a humanoid form. Despite being his Digimon, she treats Kiyoshirō as a servant, displaying a carefree and direct attitude, indifferent to the consequences of her actions. In battle, she transforms her tentacles into electric attacks. Evolving into TeslaJellymon at the Adult level and Thetismon at the Perfect level, the latter possesses healing abilities.

6. Jessie (Pokémon)

Jessie is the female member of the “Team Rocket” trio. Jessie is smart and outgoing, but also a thickheaded person who dislikes being criticized or called “old”. This girl has a cold past; she was a poor girl whose mother Miyamoto was trapped in an avalanche when Jessie was very young on a Team Rocket expedition to try and capture the Legendary Pokémon Mew, and unlike her daughter, she was ranked very high.

7. Jinbei (One Piece)

Jinbei is a Fishman, was a member of the Sun Pirate Gang, and then became captain of the Fishman Pirate Gang. He accepted the World Government’s offer to become one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea in order to increase protection for Fishman Island. However, he later refused the World Government to take part in the battle against Whitebeard (Great Battle of Marineford).

8. Jiraiya (Naruto)

Jiraiya was a ninja from Konohagakure, being not only Naruto’s master but also his father’s master. Kishimoto has commented that of all the teacher-student relationships that he has created in the Naruto series, the bond between Naruto and Jiraiya is his favorite, noting that it makes drawing them “worthwhile.” As a child, Jiraiya was under the tutelage of Hiruzen Sarutobi, along with his teammates Tsunade and Orochimaru. Jiraiya is known throughout Naruto’s world as the “Sage of the Mountain” due to his jutsu related to toads and his knowledge of Sage Jutsu. Before Naruto, Jiraiya also trained other students like Minato and Nagato due to a prophecy that he heard that his student would be a great man.

9. Jiren (Dragon Ball)

Jiren is a member of the Pride Troopers and a participant in the Tournament of Power. He is the strongest of the team in Universe 11. According to Vermoud, God of Destruction in Universe 11, Jiren is on the level of a God of Destruction and even beyond, having already exceeded in terms of power for a long time. He tends to meditate before fighting in order to channel his power. Jiren has no hair or body hair and has large black eyes and small nostrils. He’s a very muscular alien, and like all his teammates, he wears a red and black uniform, white boots, and gloves.

10. Joestar, Jonathan (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

Jonathan is the main hero of the first part. Nicknamed JoJo for the first syllables of his first and last name, Jonathan is the son of a wealthy English lord named George Joestar. His mother died in a car accident, in which George thanked a petty thief named Dario Brando for saving his and JoJo’s life. Jonathan is a somewhat naive boy whose kindness impresses those he meets. He also possesses a hidden strength that he never hesitates to put to the service of justice.

11. Joestar, Joseph (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

The main character, Joseph Joestar, is the grandson of Jonathan Joestar. His father, George Joestar II, was assassinated, leading Joseph to be raised by his grandmother, Erina Joestar, and Speedwagon. Despite his rebellious attitude, Joseph has a noble heart, demonstrated when he helps a young thief and inherits the Ripple ability from his family. While not as skilled as his grandfather Jonathan, Joseph is resourceful, using unconventional methods and gadgets in battle. He often employs psychological tactics by predicting his opponent’s responses. In his final battle against Cars, Joseph loses a hand but receives a mechanical prosthesis. He later marries Suzi Q and becomes a father to Holly.

12. Joey Wheeler (Yu-Gi-Oh!)

Joey Wheeler, a feisty and fearsome boy from a troubled family background, is initially part of a gang of thugs. Despite his brawling nature, he maintains a sense of honor and avoids mistreating those weaker than him. His life takes a positive turn when he befriends Tristan and later Yūgi, initially teasing Yūgi to toughen him up but eventually forming a deep bond. Joey, initially a rough character, undergoes a significant transformation in personality due to his friendship with Yūgi. They participate in the Pegasus tournament to fund Joey’s sister’s operation, and Joey receives a rare card from Yūgi as a gesture of friendship.

Throughout the series, Joey struggles with clumsiness and rivalry with Seto Kaiba, who often belittles him. Although he comes close to victory in the Battle City semi-finals against Marek, he collapses before launching the decisive attack. In the end, he wakes up to witness Yūgi’s duel with Kaiba. After Kaiba’s defeat, Joey challenges him for third place but loses. In the final battle against Marik, Yūgi triumphs, freeing Joey’s good side and others from the shadow realm. It’s subtly hinted that Joey harbors feelings for Mai, though he never admits it, and this is realized by Tea.

13. Jōgo (Jujutsu Kaisen)

Jōgo is a high-level Curse, a manifestation of human fear of the land, taking the form of a cyclops with a volcano-shaped head. When excited, it releases intense heat from its erupting “volcano.” Impatient and overly confident, it ruthlessly kills humans without hesitation. The Curse possesses the ability to create mini-volcanoes, generating powerful fire eruptions that can annihilate everything in their path. In contrast to most curses, it can speak and identify itself as a pure human, seeking to eliminate what it considers impostors and living counterfeits among humanity.

14. Julia (Cowboy Bebop)

Julia is a mysterious and captivating woman pursued by Spike and of the important character of Cowboy Bebop, with connections to both him and Vicious. Little is known about her past, except that she was part of the Red Dragon three years before the series, subservient to the enigmatic Vicious. Despite her apparent submission, hints suggest a complex relationship, possibly with sexual ties. Vicious, however, considers her dangerous and in need of surveillance. In a flashback, Julia’s voice, possibly referring to herself, dismisses women as liars. It is implied that Vicious pushed Julia towards Spike to keep tabs on him, unaware that genuine love would develop between the two.

15. Junichirō Tanizaki (Bungo Stray Dogs)

Junichirō Tanizaki is a young member of the agency. His ability is called Light Snow, inspired by the novel The Makioka Sisters by Jun’ichirō Tanizaki, which allows him to project illusions within a certain area. Although he doesn’t like the antics of his sister, Naomi, he becomes extremely enraged if anyone tries to harm her.
