Asa vs. Denji, the War Devil vs. Chainsaw Man: Who Would Win in a Fight?
There are still a lot of unanswered questions when the Chainsaw Man manga and anime are concerned. A lot of them concern the actual balance of power between the Devils, the Fiends, and the Hybrids. From what it seems, there doesn’t seem to be any fixed system, which is why comparing these characters is always difficult and depends on interpretation. Still, that won’t stop us from doing it, as we have decided to compare Denji, better known as Chainsaw Man, and Asa Mikata, the current host of the powerful War Devil. Who would win? Keep reading to find out!
At this moment, it is not possible to precisely determine who the stronger Devil is, the Chainsaw Devil or the War Devil. The War Devil is a powerful entity and one of the Four Horsemen, but we don’t really know how powerful these four Devils are. We know that Denji is the protagonist of the show and that he will probably be able to defeat the War Devil at some point, but we cannot provide a detailed explanation as to why that is.
Now that you have the short version of the answer, the rest of the article is going to be divided into three sections, with the first two introducing the characters, their powers, and their abilities. In the end, we’re going to give our final verdict and explanation on why Denji would be able to defeat Asa in Chainsaw Man.
Asa Mitaka’s War Devil – powers and abilities
The War Devil was first mentioned as a member of a powerful group of Devils known as the “Four Horsemen“. They, along with the Weapon Devils, once waged a bloody war against the Chainsaw Devil in Hell, but in the midst of the battle, he disappeared and the Riders were never able to find him. He is currently in a contract with Asa Mitaka and wants to destroy the Chainsaw Devil.
The War Devil is able to understand what Mitaka is thinking. When one of them takes control of the body, the other one stays outside of it, feeling only what the dominant side is feeling and being unable to physically engage with the surroundings. The War Devil has the ability to entirely take over Mitaka’s brain and control her body on its own, but she thinks it would be undesirable and is only willing to use that option as a last resort. The girl acquires facial scars and the War Devil’s distinctive eyes as the War Devil takes Mitaka’s place.
The War Devil has no trouble turning those it has “possessed” into a variety of weapons. It appears that a person must have some level of sexual or romantic attraction to the War Devil in order to join it. The War Devil must specify the kind of weapon he wants to make as well as the name of the person he has decided on.
So far, the War Devil was seen creating two weapons. The first one is the Tanaka Spinal Cord Sword, a long, curved sword with a large blade at the tip. It was made from the spinal cord that Tanaka’s head was taken off of. It is sharp enough to easily cut through flesh. The second one is the Flash Hand Granade, a hand grenade fashioned from a girl’s severed hand who signed a deal with the Justice Devil. The War Devil didn’t need to give the girl a name in order to make this grenade.
Denji’s Chainsaw Devil – powers and abilities
Denji, whose last name is unknown, is the protagonist of the Chainsaw Man manga and anime. This quirky young man came back from the dead to become one of the most dreaded Hybrids in the series. The Chainsaw Devil, with whom Denji has merged, is one of the most powerful and feared Devils in the whole franchise, and that is why the Chainsaw Devil is such a threat.
Denji has a string coming out of his chest that he may pull to turn into the Chainsaw Devil. In order to fully change, Denji needs blood; if he runs out, he can still generate chainsaws, but they will be significantly smaller and weaker. It is revealed that his agreement with Pochita contributed to the development of this talent. Pochita gave up its “regular existence” to become Denji’s heart.
Denji undergoes a change in which his arms and head sprout fully working chainsaws. These chainsaws are incredibly effective at cutting through demons; they can go right through the Bat Devil’s arms. He has the power to call out short chainsaws that he can walk on as well as hang on walls.
Denji is strong enough in his altered state to pick up a car that has been launched into the air without stumbling and toss it back with equal force. Denji, when transformed, also withstood a direct hit from the Bat Devil that obliterated the structure behind him. Despite the assault, Denji was able to stand up and carry on the battle. Denji can hold his own in a battle while on fire. Almost every part of his body was cut off at some time, and he survived the beheading.
Asa Mikata vs. Denji: Who would win?
And now for the most important and interesting section of our article – the analysis. Here, we are going to use what we have found out about these two characters and analyze how all these facts would (or would not) help them in a fight against each other. Let us continue.
Now, based on the powers we have presented above, the War Devil is – nominally, at least – a much more powerful entity than the Chainsaw Devil. He is for a reason one of the Four Horsemen, and Makima warned Denji about that group, as they are much more powerful than any of the enemies that Denji has faced up to that point.
We’re quite sure that we haven’t seen the full scope of the War Devil’s powers and abilities and that we will be seeing more of them in the future. The main issue here is that this fact makes it difficult for us to objectively compare these two Devils. The Chainsaw Devil is raw power. He is one of the strongest Devils in the franchise and is feared by all devils, as his buzzing is the only thing they remember from Hell itself.
On the other hand, the War Devil seems to be more cunning than the Chainsaw Devil and, on top of that, he seems to be powerful as well. The Four Horsemen have fought the Chainsaw Devil in Hell and they were not able to defeat him before his disappearance, although they have not been defeated either. This would mean that collectively, the Four Horsemen are somewhere around the Chainsaw Devil’s level of power, but the proper balance is not known. Since the four of them could not defeat the Chainsaw Devil so easily, we can assume that they wouldn’t stand much chance individually, but this can be misleading. Maybe they simply did not have enough time to face him properly.
Be that as it may, we still have a lot to see, from both of these characters. The War Devil’s powers and abilities are certainly going to grow in the future, but if it comes down to a fight, we’re sure that Denji, as the protagonist, will get the necessary power boost to surpass this opponent, which is why we’re sure that Denji will eventually be victorious, although it might be a very intriguing fight.
