Blackbeard vs. Boa: Who Would Win in a Fight?

One Piece is an anime that certainly has its fair share of strong and powerful characters. While we usually do use Luffy for these comparisons, this one is going to be a tad different. Blackbeard is known as one of the biggest nuisances in the One Piece franchise and we honestly doubt that there is anyone that likes him. Not only is he responsible for the deaths of Ace and Whitebeard, but he also has a very detestable personality. On the other hand, Boa Hancock is a fan favorite not only because of her relationship with Luffy but because she is a badass character in her own right. In this article, we are going to compare Blackbeard and Boa to see who would win in a fight.

Blackbeard is stronger than Boa Hancock thanks, primarily, to his two Devil Fruits, the one he had before and the other, which he stole from the late Whitebeard. Were it not for that, this duel would be more evenly matched, but due to Blackbeard’s inherent advantage, Boa Hancock wouldn’t stand much chance when Blackbeard would start to fight seriously.

The rest of this article will further elaborate on the above-given answer, as we are going to compare Blackbeard and Boa Hancock in more detail. Through several categories, you are going to see who the stronger of the two is and why our answer is like it is, i.e., why Blackbeard would ultimately able to defeat Boa Hancock if they had fought one-on-one.

Physical powers

Teach has incredible stamina, as shown when he took an earthquake blow from Whitebeard squarely to the face and neck, without losing consciousness especially since his Devil Fruit allows him to take even more damage. He also withstood a direct hit from the Murakumogiri without taking any lasting damage and was able to withstand a kick to the head from the supernova Jewelry Bonney.

During his fight with Ace, he was injured in the chest by two fire spears, but after dousing the flames, he was able to shake off the impact of the attack (albeit with the help of his logia powers). Another indication of his sheer stamina is that he received a furious attack from Luffy using Gear Second and was hit by Sengoku in his daibutsu form and came away with minor injuries both times.

Teach also possesses tremendous physical strength which is demonstrated when he severely injures both Luffy and Ace in a single blow, sending them both back to collide with incredible force and distance, even drawing blood, despite Ace being fire and Rubber Luffy (although both times he didn’t allow them to use their powers).

Boa’s brute strength is very great, obviously showing signs of superhuman strength as she can shatter stone (in the form of her petrified enemies) with a single kick, capable of breaking multiple Pacifistas without injury (while Sanji nearly broke his leg doing the same thing, even though he used his powers to turn them to stone) and being able to kick Smoker in his smoke state with her Hak.

She has been shown to be highly skilled in close combat, often in conjunction with her Devil Fruit abilities. She was able to fight through many of the New World pirates effortlessly. Much like Sanji’s fighting style, Hancock seems to prefer kicking to attacking. Although she is stronger in close-range combat, Hancock is also adept at long range and is able to use her Devil Fruit powers to attack her enemies from a great distance.

Hancock is also very smart and cunning when the situation calls for it, being able to buy Luffy time, using her charms, after hearing Magellan’s plan to stop the infiltration, as well as the theft of the key to Ace’s handcuffs. for Luffy before his arrival, knowing that it would be useful.

In terms of physical powers, Blackbeard is more of a character that can take a punch than give one, due to being fat. Now, with such great defensive abilities, he is able to withstand Boa’s attacks, but he wouldn’t actually be able to defeat her, which is why we decided to split the points here.

Points: Blackbeard 1, Boa Hancock 1

Devil Fruit

Blackbeard ate the Yami Yami no Mi, a Logia-type Devil Fruit. This fruit allows becoming, mastering darkness, and absorbing anything the user wishes. It is a very powerful fruit that allows you to cancel the power of another Devil Fruit, a bit like Sea Granite. He can lure any Devil Fruit possessor with a vortex, allowing him to hit them even if the enemy fruit is a Logia type.

We, therefore, understand why Shanks, one of the Four Emperors, came to see Whitebeard to tell him that Ace should not go looking for Blackbeard. After the events of Impel Down, Blackbeard goes to Marine Ford and finishes off Whitebeard, already badly injured. After killing Whitebeard, he hides himself and Whitebeard’s body under a sheet.

He emerges with the power of tremor, making him the holder of two Devil Fruit powers, a fact that was considered to be impossible. How he went about stealing it is still unknown, nor do we know how Teach can handle these two powers. According to Marco, this is due to a particular and abnormal structure of his body.

Hancock ate the Mero Mero no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows its user the ability to petrify anyone who is in love with her with lightning from her hands. Anyone with “dirty thoughts” turns to stone, however, this can be blocked by people using emotional techniques, such as in fear or pain, or simply out of ignorance.

Other than that, she has the same standard weaknesses as all Devil Fruit users. As part of the secret to keep the shame about his secret behind him, Hancock had the Kuja tribe believe that the power to turn people to stone was a curse he gave her for killing a Gorgon monster.

Due to the fact that Blackbeard possesses two Devil Fruits, both of which are enormously powerful, he is superior to Boa Hancock in this category, and that is why we have to give the pirate captain this point.

Haki

Teach can use two of the three types of Haki. He can use Observation Haki, being able to measure Luffy’s strength and his latent Haki twice. Teach can use Armament Haki, but his prowess with it is unknown.

Boa Hancock is one of the few people who know how to use all types of Haki. As a Kuja, she innately knows how to use the 2 main forms of Haki: Observation Haki and Armament Haki; she thus touched Smoker, a Logia-type user, during the battle of Marineford. The Kujas are also renowned for their advanced mastery of Haki. She also uses Haoshoku no Haki (called Royal Haki), an ability that one in a million people can use. However, her level of proficiency is unknown at this time since he has never been seen using it before.

Due to the fact that Boa Hancock is able to use all three types of Haki, whereas Blackbeard can only use two, we have to award this point to the Kuja princess.

Weapons

When he was younger Teach used claws on his right hand, seen with larger ones and now on his left hand as well when the Whitebeard Pirates started protecting Fish-Man Island. He was seen wearing a flintlock when he gave Whitebeard the killing blow along with the rest of his gang, and he also has three pistols strapped to his sash.

His accuracy with them is not fully shown, as he was only seen emptying his ammunition into a heavily wounded Whitebeard at point-blank range, an attack the Emperor withstood for a short time.

She has with her an extremely large snake, white with red markings, named Salome, that wears a skull with blue hair and smiles constantly. Hancock uses it as a seat and as a means of transport. It also has the ability to track things moving underwater; this was shown when it was able to detect Whitebeard’s earthquake before it arrived and when it helped Hancock track the submarine of Trafalgar Law. Despite it being a serpent weapon, Hancock has yet to be seen using it to fight, as the other Kuja do.

Boa Hancock’s only weapon is basically not a weapon and she relies heavily on her fighting skills. Since Blackbeard has been seen using a weapon or two, we are going to award the final point to him.

Blackbeard vs. Boa Hancock: Who would win?

Ultimately, we simply had to declare Blackbeard the winner here. Although the feared Pirate Captain did win by just one point, the points are not really a realistic representation of their powers and abilities in this aspect. Namely, we have concluded that Blackbeard could withstand Boa’s attacks but that he could probably not defeat her in a fist (or leg) fight; Boa Hancock’s offensive is amazing, but Blackbeard is a defensive beast.

Boa also knows all three types of Haki, which gives her a small advantage over Blackbeard and there is a possibility that Blackbeard is not that much better in weapons usage than Boa. Ultimately, it would come down to their Devil Fruits. Boa’s Devil Fruit is powerful, we cannot deny that, but its effects are limited to those that fall in love with her; and while that is very difficult to avoid, since she truly is attractive, knowing Blackbeard, he could really care less about Boa.

Blackbeard is a true villain and someone who is narcissistic enough to be immune to Boa’s Devil Fruit, rendering it useless. On the other hand, Blackbeard’s two Devil Fruits make him one of the most powerful and dangerous characters in the whole series. We have yet to see him use his full potential, but based on what we know on a general level, Blackbeard is a potential monster.

And this is why Boa Hancock wouldn’t stand much chance in a serious one-on-one fight against Blackbeard. He would simply use his Devil Fruits and defeat her with relative ease, which is why we gave him this victory.
