Gohan has demonstrated a plethora of various powers and abilities over the years, and in this article, you are going to find out how his character evolved throughout the series.
In this article, we are going to tell you about Gohan’s age in every iteration of the Dragon Ball anime series, starting with Dragon Ball, when he was born, and ending with Dragon Ball Heroes. Since some parts of the chronology are a tad confusing, we will also provide explanations for each section, as we have done before. Since there are around 25 sagas in the anime and manga, excluding the movies and Xeno, we won’t be going through each saga individually but have opted for a series-based approach as it is far more practical. It will also allow you to see information about each of the sagas, as it is known to which series each saga belongs to.
How old is Son Gohan in Dragon Ball?
Son Gohan’s age in Dragon Ball: 0-3 years old
There is not much to say about Gohan’s life during the original Dragon Ball series. He was born on May 18, Age 757, near the end of the first series. By the time the series ended in Age 760, Gohan was around three years old. Gohan was still a baby at this point and played no major role in the story, which is why there is not much to tell in this aspect.

Son Gohan’s age in Dragon Ball Z: 4-15 years old
During a reunion between Goku and his old friends from Kame House, Gohan, then only four years old, is kidnapped by his uncle Raditz, whose goal is to convince Goku to join him in conquering new planets in space. To defeat Raditz and save his son, Goku decides to ally himself with his old enemy Piccolo who, following the incident and considering Raditz as a rival, offers him his help. Despite the union of the two warriors, Raditz proves to be much stronger, and Goku’s death seems imminent.
Seeing his parent in trouble, Gohan incredibly increases his fighting strength and attacks Raditz, seriously injuring him in the chest. Due to this intervention, Raditz weakens and ends up killed by Piccolo’s hands along with Goku. Later Piccolo takes Gohan as his student and trains him in the art of combat so that he can face the other two Saiyans who would later arrive on Earth. During training, Gohan sees the full moon transform into a giant Monkey, but Piccolo destroys the Moon to appease his destructive fury, making Gohan return to normal.
After six months, the other two Saiyans arrive, but in front of the two enemies, Gohan proves to be anything but brave and risks being killed by Nappa, one of the Saiyans; however, Piccolo sacrifices himself to protect the pupil, acting as a human shield for him and dying instead of him at the hands of Nappa. Gohan will subsequently be decisive in the battle against Vegeta, the other Saiyan. He transforms once again into an Ape and thus manages to seriously injure the enemy, subsequently forced to retreat after being spared by Goku in the hope of their new attack.
After the clash with Vegeta, in order to bring his fallen comrades back to life, Gohan participates in the expedition to Namek together with Bulma and Krillin against the wishes of his mother Chi-Chi. On Namek, he intervenes in aid of Dende, who then leads him to the presence of the Chief Elder. He releases Gohan’s latent powers using his abilities, making him much stronger.
Gohan later faces the Ginyu Force, starting with Guldo, who is about to kill him. Still, Vegeta saves him by eliminating Guldo, then fights Rikoom, being defeated but saved just in time by his father, who had just arrived on Namek. Subsequently, Gohan, Goku, Vegeta, and Krillin fight together against Ginew and defeat him, to then face his boss, Frieza. While Goku concludes the battle with Freeza alone, Gohan and the others return to Earth thanks to Dende’s wish for the Namek dragon balls.
How old is Son Gohan in Dragon Ball Super?

In Dragon Ball Super, a series set sometime after the defeat of Majin Buu, Gohan has stopped training, and due to this, he has considerably weakened, eventually losing the ability to awaken the power that had been given to him by the Elder Kaioshin. When the God of Destruction, Beerus, gets angry and intends to destroy the Earth due to his quarrel with Majin Buu, Gohan tries to fight the God but is easily defeated. He later helps his father gain Super Saiyan God power, being one of the five Saiyans needed for the Super Saiyan God creation rite alongside Goten, Trunks, Vegeta, and Pan (the latter still in Videl’s womb), and he then witnesses the fight between his father and Beerus.
Sometime later, when Frieza, resurrected with the dragon balls, arrives on Earth to take revenge on Goku, Gohan, Krillin, Piccolo, Roshi, and Tenshinhan face the tyrant’s army, managing to win. Soon after, however, Gohan, still relatively weak, is reduced to the point of life by the tyrant and is almost killed, but is protected by Piccolo, who sacrifices himself to defend Gohan. After Frieza’s defeat at the hands of Goku and Vegeta, Piccolo is resurrected, and Gohan asks the old master to return to train him again.
Sometime later, he is a candidate for a member of the team that would have represented the Seventh Universe in the tournament organized by Beerus and his brother Champa against the warriors of the Sixth Universe, in which, however, he does not take part due to his academic commitments, being replaced by Piccolo.
How old is Son Gohan in Dragon Ball GT?
Son Gohan’s age in Dragon Ball GT: 32-33 years old
The Dragon Ball GT anime series is set 10 years after Goku’s departure with Uub. The end of Dragon Ball Z. Gohan’s character does not play a significant role at the beginning of the story, but when Baby arrives on Earth and takes possession of the body of Goten, Gohan faces the enemy in a tough battle. Despite Gohan’s resistance, Baby manages to take over his body. After a few episodes, however, Gohan has freed from the parasite thanks to the miraculous water and lends its energy to Goku in the final battle against Baby.
In the end, after having helped Kaiohshin in the purification of the earthlings with the miraculous water and after having lent his help in the evacuation of the Earth, destined to explode, Gohan helplessly witnesses the death of Piccolo, who decides to disappear together with the Earth so as to destroy the Black Star Dragon Balls. Gohan then battles against enemies who escape the underworld, Super C-17, and Syn Shenron. After the latter’s elimination, Gohan witnesses his father’s departure with the dragon Shenron.

Due to the very nature of the Dragon Ball Heroes universe, also known as the Xenoverse, we can confirm that Gohan doesn’t really stand out among the other characters. They all contribute to the series and the fights shown within. Still, due to the characters traveling about from one point to another, both in space and time, it is definitely difficult to pinpoint every relevant moment from the series. He does appear in all of the sagas, though.
