Every Akatsuki Member in Naruto Ranked by Strength
The Akatsuki are a group of shinobi from Naruto, freed from the Hidden Village system, representing the most actively sought criminal organization in the ninja world. Over several decades, Akatsuki has gone through different leaders and purposes. Although each recruit has a criminal past, all seek to make the world a better place on their own. Except for Konan and Nagato, its members are all Bingo Book ninjas. Its stated objective is world domination and to do this, their members play the mercenary with the different countries and try to capture all the biju in order to bring Jubi back to life and establish a lasting “peace”.
In this article, we are going to rank all the Akatsuki members by strength. We’re going to include all characters, i.e., from each iteration of the Akatsuki group that has appeared in the series so far.
19. Kakuzu’s Partner
Akatsuki: Nagato’s Akatsuki
This unidentified shinobi was a nukenin from an unknown village as well as a member of Akatsuki and Kakuzu’s partner. Some time after deserting an unknown village, he was affiliated with the Akatsuki criminal organization and joined it, teaming up with Kakuzu. In the anime, during a battle with many shinobi, he was knocked out by Kakuzu who later, after being reprimanded by his teammates, claimed his partner was too slow and should have simply dodged the attack.
Later, Kakuzu took his heart. Almost all of his abilities remain unknown, but the fact that he was accepted into the Akatsuki proves that he was a powerful shinobi. In the anime, he was shown using a sword in combat, implying that he has kenjutsu skills.
18. Kie
Akatsuki: Yahike’s Akatsuki
Kie was a member of the original Akatsuki. Seeking peace, Kie joined the independent group called Akatsuki. During one of their missions, Kie was injured and had to wear a bandage on his arm. Later, during a meeting of Akatsuki members, he reaffirmed to Konan his support and that of the others to Nagato and Yahiko.
He was presumably killed after Tobi attacked the Akatsuki members, who were on their way to save Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan from Hanzō’s trap and the Konoha Root members. Kie was a very loyal person and he had great faith in Nagato and Yahiko. He cared deeply about the Akatsuki. He strongly supported the wishes of Yahiko and the others.
He continued to strive to change Amegakure. Kie had black eyes and long hair that he had tied in a bun at the back of his head. He wore an Ame headband with which he allowed two strands of hair to hang down each side of his face. He wore a black zipper dress with the zipper part red. He also had a white cloth wrapped around him from the right side of his waist around to his left shoulder.
17. Daibutsu (anime only)
Akatsuki: Yahiku’s Akatsuki
Daibutsu was a member of the original Akatsuki. In the past, Daibutsu joined the original Akatsuki. Sometime later, he teamed up with Kyūsuke to fight Tobi and Zetsu to no avail. He was killed after a failed attempt to try and beat Tobi. Daibutsu was a bald man with colored eyes and big ears. He had thin eyes, wide lips, and a wart centered just above his eyes.
Overall, its appearance resembled that of Buddha statues found on buildings across Ame. Daibutsu was a calm person, only nodding his head in response to what his leader Yahiko said to him. Daibutsu used bô and a big stick. He could also use it in conjunction with his Suiton to quickly perform techniques like Aqueous Prison.
16. Kyūsuke
Akatsuki: Yahiku’s Akatsuki
At some point, Kyūsuke had developed feelings for Konan, who is part of the founding trio of Akatsuki. She politely dismissed his confession, saying she was too busy fighting to have peace, Kyusuke respected her opinion. Some time later, a messenger from Hanzō came with a request for the Akatsuki to meet him and form an alliance.
Kyûsuke and the others were quickly overjoyed and celebrated the beginning of the success of the first step towards real peace. The next day, Kyûsuke learned that members of the Konoha Anbu had been seen near Hanzô. Finding this suspicious, Kyūsuke and the others moved quickly to respond to their allies.
Before they could reach them, Tobi and Zetsu had intercepted the group, determined to let Hanzō’s plan to assassinate the Akatsuki leader succeed, in order to fully awaken Nagato’s Rinnegan. Noting that Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan had given him meaning in their lives and rekindled the hope he had long lost, Kyūsuke was then determined to defeat his attackers.
In the end, Tobi’s intangibility made Kyūsuke’s attacks useless. He teamed up with Daibutsu for a final group attack, only Kyūsuke died from his own technique, Tobi managed to teleport him and narrowly escaped this suicidal technique. Kyūsuke’s skills were unknown in the manga. In the anime, he was a fast-moving shinobi whose speed earned him his nickname, Quick-Step Kyūsuke.
Proving his speed on the battlefield, he had shown himself to be very evasive when facing an army of White Zetsu. He was also noted for being highly skilled in intelligence gathering. He was strong in the practice of kenjutsu.
15. Jūzō Biwa (anime only)
Akatsuki: Nagato’s Akatsuki
Jūzō was once internationally known for his inhuman violence. He seemed like a quiet loner, as well as loyal to the Akatsuki, obeying Pain’s orders without question. He preferred to do his missions as professionally as possible, creating formations in order to synchronize as best as possible with his partner Itachi.
He hated his native village, to the point of avoiding any mission in the Land of Water. Jūzō was a lonely individual who had no one in his life but him, and therefore chose not to relegate a final word to Itachi before dying. He does, however, show some sort of concern for Itachi, having told him to flee and save himself before reinforcements arrive.
As a member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, Jūzō was one of Kiri’s most powerful shinobi. Like all the other members of his team, he had excellent kenjutsu skills. Having wielded the Kubikiribôchô sword, a weapon that can regenerate from the blood of victims, Jûzô amused himself by smearing the battlefields with the blood of his victims.
In the anime, he was able to survive the Eight Gates of Dai training, allowing him to be accepted into the Akatsuki, an organization whose members were capable of capturing jinchūriki. He was also a proficient Suiton user, being able to create watery clones as well as shroud his surroundings in thick mist.
14. White Zetsu
Akatsuki: Nagato’s Akatsuki / Tobi’s Akatsuki
Zetsu possesses the ability to blend into the landscape by “fusing” with it and can travel this way. It can emerge from any place, either from the ground or from an element, such as a tree. This power allows him to act as a spy for Akatsuki. He is also cannibalistic, not hesitating to devour the corpses of Sasori’s subordinates, and can therefore be used as a “cleaner” serving to erase the traces of the organization.
It is likely that there is a link between this characteristic and the “carnivorous plant” that surrounds its head, this green extension in which it can hide entirely when it closes it on itself (like teeth). It is now known that Zetsu is able to separate his white part and his black part and that each holds particular powers.
The white part is indeed capable of serving as a chakra receptacle by stealing it from other ninjas (even Kage) to transfer it to another host. He can create many clones that he can shapeshift at will (he used this technique to save Kisame from the clutches of the Kumo ninjas). He is able to use a spore delay technique allowing him to grow his body from a shapeless mass clinging to people, absorbing their chakra. His clones are able to simulate the appearance of someone who has previously been in contact with him and whose chakra he can replicate.
However, this copy is much weaker than the original, making it mostly useful for diversion. Black Zetsu merges with the environment so he can spy around without having to show himself. He can also bring out a root from his body to speak with White Zetsu who will have previously created a root as well.
13. Yahiko
Akatsuki: Yahiku’s Akatsuki
Yahiko possessed a Suiton nature chakra and could therefore use techniques of this element. He also seemed skilled in kenjutsu as he was shown with his hands resting on the pommel of a large sword. Tendo was the most powerful of Pain’s six bodies. He mainly used techniques based on repulsion and attraction.
His Celestial Repulsion allowed him, among other things, to repel any attack. Each use involves five seconds of recharge during which Tendo cannot cast spells. The more powerful the technique, the longer the recovery time. At maximum power, the repulsion was capable of destroying an entire village, and the pull was strong enough to create a moon.
In the anime, he could also use the Suiton. As the reincarnation of the original leader of the Akatsuki, he presided over the Biju sealing ceremony by initiating the technique of the nine phantom dragons which required the participation of all members of the organization.
12. Hidan
Akatsuki: Nagato’s Akatsuki
In combat, Hidan showed that he was very proficient in taijutsu. He wielded a Three-Bladed Scythe which he used as a short and long range weapon. Despite her large and dangerous form, Shikamaru speculated that she was meant to get blood, instead of inflicting fatal wounds. He controlled her with a long metal cable, which was connected to a coil hidden under his coat.
He was exceptionally skilled at his handling, able to deflect a swarm of shuriken thrown nearby. He also demonstrated tremendous aim and control over where and how he would strike, making it very difficult for his opponents to predict the weapon’s movements.
The unusual curvilinear trajectories it took made it even more unpredictable and Hidan was shown to be able to deflect the scythe perpendicularly and unexpectedly towards a target despite the scythe being quite far from him.
11. Sasori
Akatsuki: Nagato’s Akatsuki
Sasori was a very powerful ninja, able to defeat and kill the Third Kazekage, the strongest ninja in Suna’s history. His use of his puppets was greatly feared throughout the Third Great Ninja War, earning him the nickname “Sasori of the Red Sand”.
Trained in puppetry by his grandmother Chiyo, Sasori had 298 puppets for combat, and was the only one who knew the technique for creating human puppets (or Hitokugutsu), puppets created from human beings and endowed with chakra. He thus killed, then transformed the Third Kazekage into a puppet, while retaining all of his very high level techniques (which explains why Suna’s men never found him during the Third Shinobi Great War).
He also got rid of his own body in favor of a puppet, which allows him to take refuge in other puppets in case of need. The only remnant of the real Sasori is his “heart”, which he keeps in a reliquary placed on his chest. This reliquary can animate the puppets with Sasori’s soul and it can move to attach itself to the various puppets.
This is Sasori’s only weak point and the guarantee of his immortality. He was defeated by Sakura and Chiyo after a titanic fight. His Akatsuki ring represents the Virgin: Gyokuno, bears the sign of the “sphere” (Gyôku) and is located on the left thumb. He is considered one of the best members of the organization by Deidara, although the latter ironically disparaged his “art” over his own.
10. Deidara
Akatsuki: Nagato’s Akatsuki
Deidara is a user of Bakuton, the chakra nature of explosion. He can thus create clay sculptures which explode thanks to his chakra. The weak point of his achievements is that they are sensitive to reason. And so in the event of an electric shock, his sculptures do not explode. Deidara can no longer fight when he lacks clay, necessary for his achievements.
His left eye was also trained to undo the Sharingan illusions. It is thanks to this that he managed to undo Sasuke’s illusions during his fight against him. He also has a device allowing him to aim and zoom to refine his shots and spot his enemies.
9. Kisame Hoshigaki
Akatsuki: Nagati’s Akatsuki / Tobi’s Akatsuki
Kisame is described as the Hidden Village Monster of Kiri. He is also a renegade of the order of the Swordsmen of the Mist of which he was considered the most powerful. In addition, he is endowed with superhuman strength according to Guy, who had to resort to Morning Peacock to defeat a Kisame clone at only 30% of the original’s capacities.
Moreover, Neji declared when seeing the clone that he had never seen such an amount of chakra since Naruto, who was also endowed with an exceptionally large reserve. Kisame can also absorb his opponents’ chakra, even without Samehada’s help. His abilities are based primarily on the handling of Samehada, a legendary sword that allows him to steal the chakra of his opponents.
Thus, the stronger his enemy, the more powerful Kisame will be. The native of Kiri is also considered by Tobi as the best in terms of capturing biju, a status that he owes, among other things, to his extraordinary endurance. He uses the chakra stolen by Samehada to regenerate himself mid-fight, allowing him to stand up to a Tailed Fiend and beat it to wear. Samehada, however, cannot suck more than six Chakra Tails per hit: this limit allowed B to inflict a large gash on him with his Lariat.
8. Kakuzu
Akatsuki: Nagato’s Akatsuki
He has strange powers and a rather “special” body: covered with scars, he can unsolder parts of his body to attack while keeping control of them thanks to long black threads oozing from his wounds. Thus he can project his arms to strangle his enemies, and these if he separates them from his body are completely independent.
These black threads can also be used to “reattach” severed limbs, such as Deidara’s right arm or Hidan’s head. Kakuzu and Hidan are Akatsuki’s most effective duo in teamfighting. Indeed, Hidan’s immortality allows Kakuzu to attack his opponents without worrying about his teammate’s health. This strategy allows this immortal duo to create combo attacks that are much more dangerous for the enemy.
On the one hand, Kakuzu’s ranged techniques, which are far-reaching and devastating; and on the other Hidan’s melee techniques which focus on a single target and are very dangerous.
7. Konan
Akatsuki: Yahiko’s Akatsuki / Nagato’s Akatsuki
As an S-rank criminal, having grown up in a war-torn era and having been personally trained under the tutelage of Jiraiya, one of the Legendary Three Ninjas, Konan was undoubtedly a very powerful kunoichi. Her skills were recognized by his partner Pain as well as her former master, Jiraiya. From an early age Konan had a natural talent for origami.
She continued to develop it into her fighting style, leading to the creation of the Shikigami Dance. This technique can allow her to transform her body and her clothes into multiple sheets of paper. She can control and even change the shape of certain parts of her body into sheets at will, being able to give them the form, for example, of weapons to attack her enemies or of butterflies for espionage and to travel long distances.
She could also harden her paper with chakra into the shape of a spear, shuriken, and chakram-type weapons. She was also able to cover her enemy with sheets of paper, preventing him from moving and breathing.
6. Shin Uchiha (and his clones)
Akatsuki: Shin’s Akatsuki
Shin’s skills are unknown. However, given that he was one of Orochimaru’s test subjects and moreover survived them, it stands to reason that he is very powerful. Which is shown when he engages in a fight against Sasuke Uchiha, resisting him, resorting to trickery to stand up to him. He only lost to Sasuke thanks to a surprise attack from Sakura Haruno.
Shin has multiple Sharingan implanted all over his body. Due to his highly adaptive body, Shin is able to keep his Sharingan free unlike most people who are not a member of the Uchiha clan. Through unknown means, Shin was able to awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan.
Shin possesses a unique genetic makeup that will completely accept any new genetic material, be it tissues, organs, or whole limbs, without risk of rejection, allowing him to fully integrate into his being.
This same trait also makes it much easier for permanent and separate entity clones of him to be created. Shin is also shown to have great stamina. Despite being badly injured by Sakura’s punches, he was able to survive long enough to be treated through open surgery, which he himself performed while talking with Sakura.
5. Black Zetsu
Akatsuki: Nagato’s Akatsuki / Tobi’s Akatsuki
Zetsu possesses the ability to blend into the landscape by “fusing” with it and can travel this way. It can emerge from any place, either from the ground or from an element, such as a tree. This power allows him to act as a spy for the Akatsuki. This Jutsu is surely the Soil Assimilation. Indeed, it is the same principle as Orochimaru’s doton (earth element) jutsu.
4. Itachi Uchiha
Akatsuki: Nagato’s Akatsuki
Itachi Uchiha was considered a genius in his village, even within the famous Uchiha clan, adept in combat. He was able to effortlessly learn a new jutsu from mere observation and quickly rose through the various ninja ranks. His prowess rivaled Shisui Uchiha, who was considered the strongest Uchiha of his time.
He was particularly versatile: he excelled in taijutsu, ninjutsu, seals and genjutsu and won praise from his allies and enemies. Orochimaru, one of Konoha’s Three Legendary Ninjas, openly admitted that Itachi was stronger than him. Tobi reveals to Sasuke that, although weakened by illness, Itachi could have killed him during their fight if he wished.
Even while holding back, a team of jônin was pushed back into their entrenchment by the latter. Being an Uchiha, Itachi was naturally gifted with the fire chakra nature. He also mastered a large number of Katon techniques. Like the unique technique of the Clan Uchiha Katon – Supreme Fireball that he already mastered at seven years old.
Itachi is also able to use Katon – Balsamine which allows him to launch several small balls of fire, or to combine this technique with Shurikens. He also demonstrated his mastery of Suiton techniques against Kakashi and Kabuto. Itachi activated his Sharingan at only eight years old, since he became an extremely gifted ninja and showed an excellent mastery of the Sharingan, which even surprised Orochimaru.
He demonstrated superior skill and power to most members of his clan. Since the death of his best friend Shisui Uchiha, Itachi has accessed the higher stage of the Sharingan, the “Hypnotic Sharingan Kaleidoscope” (Mangekyō Sharingan).
3. Orochimaru
Akatsuki: Nagato’s Akatsuki
Orochimaru is one of the three Sannin, legendary ninjas, and he lives up to his title. He had enough power to be the 4th Hokage but didn’t become one because of his ambitions. He even managed to eliminate the Third Hokage, yet reputed to be one of the most powerful Kage in history. His techniques are essentially based on snakes.
He can launch attacks with surging snakes with great amplitude and power, enough to stand up to Naruto in Four-Tailed Kyūbi Mode. Orochimaru has a great mastery of Ninjutsu and knows countless techniques. His dream being to master all the techniques of the shinobi world, he knows that he can only achieve this with one life, which for him seems far too short.
So he developed the immortality spell. This allows him to migrate his soul into another body and thus possess a powerful body and the life he has left. During this ritual, Orochimaru takes his victim to a parallel dimension of his creation where he takes over his body. Unfortunately this is what will cause his loss to Sasuke where he will use his will to eat away at the dimension and capture Orochimaru.
Another way for him to achieve immortality was by affixing cursed seals containing his chakra and a fragment of his consciousness, so that with a fragment of a compatible body he could be freed. Orochimaru’s summons are mostly snakes of various sizes which he uses depending on the power of his enemies. His snakes for battle were usually the size of Gamabunta.
His most powerful summon is Manda, the King of Serpents. This one was as cunning and powerful as Orochimaru but also not at all submissive to Orochimaru. At each summon, Orochimaru had to give him an offering, one hundred humans.
2. Nagato / Pain
Akatsuki: Yahiko’s Akatsuki / Nagato’s Akatsuki
According to Jiraiya, he would have mastered the six nature changes of the Chakra and the five elements at only ten years old thanks to his Rinnegan, a unique fact in the history of ninjas.
He is able to manipulate six paths at the same time, which he names Pain, after having implanted dozens of extremely resistant black piercings (transmitters and receivers of Chakra) in them all over the body and face; he controls in the same way many invocations that one of his corps can use. When the six Pain are united, they form Pain Rikudô (the Six Paths of Pain).
After the death of his best friend Yahiko, Nagato will make his corpse the main body among the six. Although he resides most of the time in the hidden village of Ame, when he wishes to handle the bodies in a remote place, Nagato must also leave the village and stay at a reasonable distance from the corpses, in a place as far away as possible. high as possible, to maintain full control over them.
Nagato can be seen as a Seventh Path, having power over life and death, like resurrecting someone who died recently. He also possesses the power of all the Pains combined.
1. Obito Uchiha / Tobi
Akatsuki: Nagato’s Akatsuki / Tobi’s Akatsuki
During his time as a Konoha ninja, Obito’s abilities were average at best, struggling to match his Academy comrades. Determined to improve, he trained for several months and eventually became a chūnin. Madara saw great potential in Obito and therefore chose him as his disciple. Madara’s hopes proved right, as under her tutelage, Obito greatly enhanced his late blooming abilities, becoming a copycat of Madara in his prime.
At the age of 14, Obito issued a challenge to the Fourth Hokage and nearly destroyed Konoha. As an adult, he defeated two of the most talented Root ninjas, killed Konan, and held his own in one-on-one combat with Naruto, Killer B, Guy, and Kakashi.
As Shinju’s jinchūriki, Obito’s power exceeded even Hashirama Senju’s, he was able to effortlessly battle three powerful Hokage, overwhelm both Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, as well as the entire army forces. Shinobi, with minimal effort.
