Omni-Man vs. Goku: Who Wins the Fight & How?
By now, you probably know that Son Goku is one of the most powerful and potent fictional characters ever created. He is not the most powerful one, but he is at the very top. On the other hand, we also have a very powerful character, this time a character from a modern American comic book, who is a very evil version of Superman, or the likes, and that is Invincible‘s Omni-Man. In this article, we are going to compare these two superpowered characters. So, how would the false hero of Invincible stand against the protagonist of Dragon Ball? Well, that is a question we are going to answer in this article.
There is absolutely no doubt that Son Goku would defeat Omni-Man in a fight. Omni-Man is definitely strong and he has some amazing powers, but in comparison to Goku’s powers and skills, he is simply not on the same level. Goku has reached a godlike level of power and with his experience, he would easily defeat Omni-Man under any circumstances, without any issues whatsoever.
The rest of the article is going to be all about comparing the two characters from Invincible and Dragon Ball, respectively. You’re going to find out who Omni-Man and Son Gokuare, as well as what their exact powers and abilities are. In the end, based on what we have presented earlier, we’re going to give our final verdict on who is stronger. It’s promising to be a fun story so keep reading until the end!
Omni-Man and his powers
Omni-Man came to Earth in the 1980s, where he ended up adopting the secret identity of a best-selling author named Nolan Grayson. He married a woman whose life he had saved, named Debbie, and they both had a son, Mark Grayson. It was later revealed that Nolan had been sent to Earth as a conqueror of the Viltrumite Empire, a revelation that contrasted with his previous claims that their presence was to advance human technology and protect Earth from extraterrestrial dangers.
Omni-Man then beat Mark to death during a dispute and abandoned the planet shortly after. In addition, it is said that Nolan has discovered a new planet to reign over in an effort to lessen the effects of his failure on Earth. But Nolan’s ascent to power was completely peaceful. It was just the custom of the locals, the mantis aliens (an insectoid race that lived exclusively within a period of nine months), to elect the oldest of them to serve as their leader.
As on Earth, Nolan also wed a native woman named Andressa and had a son named Oliver (who subsequently begins to use the codename “Kid Omni-Man” when accompanying Invincible back to Earth). However, compared to humans, the genetic variations between Viltrumites and Mantises were more pronounced. The boy aged considerably more quickly than his father’s species, but far slower than that of his mother. Omni-Man was defeated and captured by his own people, putting a stop to his attempts to please the Viltrumite Empire.
He was imprisoned there until the Empire was able to send the necessary Viltrumite executioners. He said goodbye to Mark by saying: “Mark, read my books. I have books.” Mark learns from his tailor Arthur Rosenbaum that the books Nolan was referring to were a collection of unsuccessful science fiction “novels,” not his well-known trip books. Mark immediately understood that the tales were first-person descriptions of Nolan’s personal expeditions to eliminate potential dangers to the Viltrumite Empire, which might contain the secrets to overthrowing the Viltrumite Empire, contrary to Arthur’s initial suspicion that they were Viltrumite folklore.
His superhuman strength, speed, stamina, endurance, intergalactic travel, enhanced lung capacity, near invulnerability, an enhanced healing factor, and accelerated aging are only a few of his abilities.
Son Goku and his powers
Son Goku is the main protagonist of the manga Dragon Ball, and their animated adaptations, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z / Dragon Ball Kai, then Dragon Ball Super, as well as the alternative animated sequel to the first two series, Dragon Ball GT. An orphan exiled from the defunct planet Vegeta, he lands on Earth where he grows up with his adoptive grandfather. His adventure begins the day he meets Bulma, a young adventurer, who invites him to look for the Dragon Balls.
In terms of pure powers, we can state that Son Goku has become a true Saiyan god as the series progressed. He doesn’t have any superpowers like some other superheroes, but he can utilize his physique and his fighting skills in such a way that he truly does seem superhuman.
He is a constantly evolving character that upgrades his skills and potential after each big challenge, becoming more powerful after every fight. In that aspect, his potential is practically unlimited and it is safe to assume – although, we have to reiterate that, there is no hard evidence for this – that his potential is night infinite. When it comes to speed, well, we don’t actually know how fast Goku is. We know he’s fast. His reflexes are brilliant and he can, indeed, move really fast. But how fast is he, exactly? We haven’t a clue.
If we consult Dragon Ball Super, where Goku’s powers have become almost absurdly big, and compare his speed to the general speed of the Dragon Ball Z characters, we could assume that he’s become the fastest character in the series. The sad thing is – we have absolutely no proof of this and this brings us to the verifiability issue mentioned above. This is one of such unverified (or even unverifiable) assumptions that you can freely interpret.
Son Goku is a superb warrior who never gets weary and becomes better after every battle in terms of stamina. Son Goku is a trained martial artist, making him naturally skilled in hand-to-hand combat; instead of relying on his strength and his abilities, he uses his talents and intricate fighting techniques. Additionally, because of his Saiyan build, he can battle for an extremely long time—so long that it is debatable whether he ever tires—though this is another unsubstantiated notion that is open to interpretation. Additionally, he develops and expands after each combat, which increases his durability.
He is not immortal, though, which is something we thought was worth mentioning at this point. Finally, we’d like to confirm that Goku doesn’t really have any known weaknesses in the classical sense. Sure, he can be beaten, but there is no secret weapon you could use in a fight against him. If you’re a better fighter, you’ll win; if not, there’s really no “cheat code” you could use.
Omni-Man vs. Son Goku: Who would win?
And now for the most important and interesting section of our article – the analysis. Here, we are going to use what we have found out about these two characters and analyze how all these facts would (or would not) help them in a fight against each other. Let us continue.
It is not a coincidence that Son Goku has become a meme of sorts when powers and abilities are concerned; namely, everyone knows that the question “Yes, but can he defeat Goku?” will pop up sooner or later during a conversation about a particular character’s powers and abilities. This is because Goku has evolved so much over the years and has fought a plethora of various characters, most of which he was able to defeat, becoming even stronger in the process. This ability has made him such a well-respected character among all fandoms. And that is why he is so often the topic of such comparisons.
But, we’ll start off with Omni-Man. The false hero of Invincible is a very powerful character, but he doesn’t really stand out much from your typical American comic book superpowered character. Modeled after Superman, he is a more brutal and evil version of the Man of Steel. The two of them have very similar powers and abilities, but Omni-Man is definitely – like Homelander from The Boys – a weaker iteration of the Superman prototype. There’s not really much to tell here, as his powers are more or less typical, both in their form and in their power. He is just more brutal and more ruthless than your typical Superman-esque character.
On the other hand, we have Goku. We have written numerous characters about Goku here on Fiction Horizon, both yours truly and his dear colleagues, and there is really so much to tell about him that it is difficult to sum it up in just a couple of paragraphs. Still, what we can say is that Goku had a Superman-esque story himself, but he did not gain his powers by “abusing” the conditions on Earth, because his race, the Saiyans, were already quite powerful. As a Saiyan, Goku has nigh unlimited potential and he has demonstrated the ability to become stronger after every battle.
Recently, he has been training with Whiz and has reached Beerus’ level of power, which is truly amazing. Namely, Goku is currently on the level of a God of Destruction, and that not only makes him more powerful than Omni-Man, but it also makes him one of the most powerful fictional characters ever. There is no doubt that on this level, Goku would easily wipe the floor with Omni-Man. The latter’s powers wouldn’t even be enough to injure Goku, whose martial arts skills also surpass anything that Omni-Man could actually use against the Saiyan warrior. And that is why our final verdict here is as it is and why we are certain that Goku would win this one easily. Omni-Man is simply not a match for him.
