There are a lot of interesting characters in the storyline of Dungeons & Dragons, especially because different and unique adventurers questing together has always been what made this tabletop game so popular. Of course, the same element was carried over to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, a live-action movie based on the same universe. One such character that fans found interesting was Doric. So, who is Doric?

Doric is a half-elf druid that lives with the Emerald Enclave in the Neverwinter Wood. She can shapeshift into different animals, and her favorite is the Owlbear. Doric joined the questing party of Edgin because she wanted to protect her home from Forge, who ordered the destruction of their forest.

Due to her abilities, Doric was one of the more reliable members of Edgin’s questing party, and she was one of the characters that didn’t do it for the sake of money. As such, she added a unique touch to the storyline, especially because of her somewhat stoic personality. Now, let’s learn more about Doric and what happened to her in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Doric’s Background Explained

We all know that the storyline of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves starts when Edgin and Holga break out of prison after spending two years there following their capture from a failed heist involving Forge and Sofina. After escaping, the duo found that Forge was now the new Lord of Neverwinter, taking care of Edgin’s daughter Kira. But they also learned that Forge teamed up with Sofina two years ago to betray them. And Sofina was an evil Red Wizard that was too powerful for Edgin and Holga to confront.

In that regard, after escaping their execution, Edgin and Holga decided to form a questing party for a heist that involved stealing from Forge’s treasury, recovering the Tablet of Reawakening (which had the power to bring back the dead), and getting back Kira. And that meant that they needed more help.

The first person that Edgin and Holga approached was a half-elf sorcerer named Simon, who used to go on adventures with them before they were incarcerated for two years. Simon reluctantly joined their questing party and recommended that they add another person he was quite familiar with because he once courted her at one point in the post, only for her to reject Simon due to his lack of confidence. The one he was referring to was Doric.

Doric is a half-elf druid that lives with the Emerald Enclave in Neverwinter Wood. The reason why Edgin and Holga wanted to recruit her was the fact that she could shapeshift into different animals. They even found Doric transformed into a horse to infiltrate the soldiers about to execute a member of the Emerald Enclave, which had gotten on the bad side of Forge. After that, Doric transformed into an Owlbear to decimate the soldiers and escape.

Edgin, Holga, and Simon followed Doric to her village, where they asked if she wanted to follow them on a quest to take down Forge. Doric struggled to recognize Simon initially but eventually remembered him when he reminded her she rejected him a while back. And while she was hesitant to join the questing party because of her distrust for humans, she still decided to go with them because she wanted to protect her people from Forge, who was destroying their homes in the forest.

What Happens to Doric in Honor Among Thieves?

After Doric agreed to help Edgin and his group, she infiltrated Castle Never as an insect to spy on Forge and Sofina. That was when she learned that the vault protecting Forge’s treasury was protected by an extremely powerful magical spell beyond Simon’s abilities. She narrowly escaped the castle to tell the others what she found out.

Due to the information that she gathered, Simon gave Edgin the idea of looking for the Helmet of Disjunction, which was the only thing that could open that vault because of its ability to dispel any enchantments within a limited range. As such, the next step for them was to go to the Evermoors Cemetery to dig out some of the members of the Elk Tribe, which participated in the Battle of the Evermoors a hundred years ago when the helm was last spotted. And thanks to Simon’s ability to reanimate the dead temporarily using a token, they could learn where the Helmet of Disjunction was.

The information they got about the helm took them to a Thayan paladin named Xenk, who was also a member of the Harpers, the same organization that Edgin used to be a part of. While Xenk was hesitant to give them the helmet at first, he agreed to do so after learning that Sofina was Red Wizard and when Edgin promised that he would share the loot with the people of Neverwinter.

Xenk took them to the Underdark, the only safe place to hide the Helmet of Disjunction. After running into a few Thayan assassins and an overweight dragon, they escaped the Underdark and got to shore.

The problem was that Simon struggled to attune the helmet, forcing Edgin to devise a backup plan involving the Hither-Tither Staff, which can open two connected portals. This plan involved sending a painting with one portal into the vault and for the questing party to enter the vault through another portal. However, while that may have worked, it initially failed because the portal painting was placed inside the vault facing a stone floor.

In that regard, Doric started chipping away at the floor while Edgin gave Simon enough confidence to believe he could attune with the helmet and dispel the enchantment on the vault. Doric stayed behind to continue chipping away at the floor so that she could get enough space to crawl through as a worm. She succeeded as she entered the portal and discovered that this wasn’t the vault but a space under the arena that led to a dock, where a boat was waiting.

Doric and the others found themselves in a trap that Forge and Sofina set up for them. However, they were allowed to enter the High Sun Games, a tournament involving a maze and several monsters. And she couldn’t shapeshift during the tournament because she was forced to wear a bangle that prevented her from using magic.

When Doric found out that the maze changed periodically and that the maze walls led to an underground chamber, she told the others to enter an acidic jelly-like monster attached to a maze wall so that they could enter the chamber just under the arena. While they were in the jelly-like creature, she transformed into a snake to slither her way out of it and pull Edgin and the others out before the monster could completely dissolve them.

Following their way out of the underground chamber, they got to Forge’s boat before he arrived. Forge got to the boat with Kira, only to see that Edgin and his friends were already there. After defeating Forge and convincing Kira that Edgin wasn’t a bad person, the questing party was ready to leave Neverwinter together with the treasure that Forge had stocked up. But when they saw that there was something evil happening in the arena, that was when they decided to return to confront and defeat Sofina.

Using the Hither-Tither Staff and the gold on the boat, they could lure the people of Neverwinter out of the arena, which was the epicenter of Sofina’s undead-turning spell. An angry Sofina confronted the questing party, as Doric confronted her in her Owlbear form. However, Sofina used her magic to create a dragon-like beast that was strong enough to match Doric.

Nevertheless, teamwork allowed Edgin, Holga, Simon, and Doric to force Sofina into using the same time-stop spell that she used two years ago to trap Edgin and Holga. Simon tried to absorb the spell but seemingly failed to do so, as all of them were seemingly frozen in time. Sofina approached Edgin, who was simply faking it as he placed a magic-neutralizing bracelet on her to prevent her from using her magic.

Simon revealed that he had learned to absorb and neutralize this spell. Doric, meanwhile, transformed into an Owlbear to bash the evil Red Wizard to the ground until she could no longer fight back.

Although Holga died and was subsequently brought back by Edgin using the Tablet of Reawakening, the heroes won the day and were proclaimed the city’s saviors. Doric got her to wish when the old Lord of Neverwinter signed a pact with the Emerald Conclave to protect their forest. And Doric, who used to have a deep distrust for humans, told Edgin that she has learned to trust a few of them.
