Why Does Sasuke Cover His Rinnegan? The Reason Revealed!

Sasuke Uchiha is one of the most important characters in the whole Naruto franchise. The antihero of the series, Sasuke, has been it all – the villain, the hero, and, finally, an antihero that beautifully complements Naruto’s heroic ideals. On top of that, Sasuke is also one of the strongest characters in the whole series. Many of his powers and abilities stem from the fact that he could use the Rinnegan, but Sasuke while he had it, Sasuke kept hiding his Rinnegan with his hair, which actually confused fans. In this article, we are going to reveal why Sasuke had to cover his Rinnegan in the series.
The principal reason why Sasuke covered his Rinnegan was to preserve his chakra. The Rinnegan was quite powerful, and it would definitely drain a lot of Sasuke’s chakra had it not been hidden. Also, Sasuke keeps it hidden so he would not be recognized – as he travels a lot – and to avoid arousing any suspicion, people would probably get a tad scared if they saw such a powerful technique.
In this article, we will tell you what happened to Sasuke Uchiha and why he covered his Rinnegan while he had it. We will go over the whole story involving the Rinnegan, which is a fairly common question from the Naruto universe. If you’re not fully up-to-date with the story of Naruto and Boruto, we have to warn you that there will be spoilers in this article.
Why does Sasuke cover his Rinnegan?
Sasuke was able to awaken the Rinnegan in his left eye after acquiring the power of the Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki. The Sharingan’s tomoe was still present in this Rinnegan, which had six of them and was identical to the traditional Rinnegan in color (purple-gray). However, when the ocular power was heavily depleted, the tomoe would vanish, and Sasuke could not use the Sharingan’s full strength for a while. His Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan was similarly affected by the process of time lengthening until its subsequent restoration.
Sasuke struggled to control his dōjutsu throughout the Fourth War and was occasionally forced to shut it down due to his inability to deactivate it. This showed that he lacked proper mastery over the art. Sasuke’s Rinnegan allowed him to defeat Madara Uchiha’s black receptors without being affected by him and also gave him the capacity to sense invisible targets. Along with his Susanoo, which blocked the rays of Genjutsu, Sasuke’s Rinnegan could also negate the effects of the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Notably, Sasuke could only find signs of Kaguya’s chakra with the help of the Rinnegan.
Sasuke showed that he could use his own Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan skills with his Rinnegan during and immediately after his fight with Kaguya, enabling him to execute Amaterasu and hence the Flame Element. However, he could increase his effectiveness when swapping with entities or objects in the same space despite this. At first, Sasuke could only teleport within a small radius, but after fully mastering the technique, he could teleport much farther. He also showed that he could swap positions with an object without fixing it.
Like the other dōjutsu practitioners, Sasuke could access the powers of the Six Paths. He demonstrated this ability by using the Deva Path to use Chibaku Tensei to individually seal each of the nine Tailed Beasts after putting them under a genjutsu powered by the Rinnegan to stop their movement. He then moved the asteroids in question toward the Tailed Beasts. In the anime, he had access to the Bansh Ten’in, which allowed him to draw whatever he desired.
Similarly, the Uchiha showed how he could use the Black Path to take chakra through simple physical contact. However, Kurama emphasized that he was unable to absorb and use a jutsu simultaneously. But he also discovered that he could only do it a few times before his eye needed to be recharged. As he did with the Outer Path Demon Statue, Sasuke could absorb, contain, and control the chakra of the nine Tailed Beasts using his Complete Body — Susanoo.
Now that we have explained Sasuke’s relationship with the Rinnegan, you know how powerful it is and why Sasuke wouldn’t really show off his Rinnegan like it was a piece of jewelry. The Rinnegan is quite powerful, and while it can help Sasuke enormously, it also takes a big toll on his energy. Namely, the Rinnegan drains a lot of his chakra, and keeping it uncovered would mean that it is active, which would constantly drain Sasuke’s chakra and thus make him a lot weaker. This is not something Sasuke would want (no one would, really), and based on that, it makes sense that he would cover it to save his energy and be able to use it when he needs it.
But, while chakra preservation is certainly the main reason for Sasuke’s decision to cover his Rinnegan, it is not the only one. Namely, the Rinnegan is quite noticeable, and people around the world know what it is, how dangerous it is, and who has it since it is not a secret fact. Now, more people know that Sasuke has the Rinnegan than what Sasuke actually looks like. This allows Sasuke, especially now that he has grown, to travel – and he does that a lot – unnoticed most of the time, as people don’t really know it is him, and they cannot identify him via the Rinnegan.
On top of that, hiding the Rinnegan makes Sasuke seem far less dangerous than he actually is, which is a major advantage for him. People are not afraid of him because he doesn’t look that intimidating, and he can get out of tricky situations or have the element of surprise on his side thanks to the fact that people underestimate him because they cannot see how powerful he is.
And these are the three principal reasons why Sasuke kept his Rinnegan covered. Now, all of them are irrelevant as Sasuke has lost his Rinnegan to a Momoshiki-controlled Boruto in Boruto, so he does not have a Rinnegan to cover anymore, but the data we have given you refers back to the time when he still had his Rinnegan.
