Most Black Clover characters are popular because they are canon or have been present in the anime filler episodes, gaining notoriety despite the criticisms directed towards these episodes; this is a fact for almost every anime series. The Black Clover doesn’t have too much non-canon material, at least not serious non-canon material, but that doesn’t really matter in this case, as the focus of our article will be a canon character from the series. And not just a canon character, but the canon character – Asta – as we will present his powers and abilities to you and compare him to other powerful anime characters.

The article is going to be divided into two major sections. The first one will be a presentation of Asta’s powers and abilities (including his Demon Form), while the other one will be a short comparison of Asta’s powers and abilities to the powers and abilities of other characters, divided into several subsections. These are not going to be detailed analyses, just brief comments so you can understand just how powerful Asta is in relation to other major anime characters.

Asta’s Demon Form is exceptionally powerful

Asta dispels other forms of magic with the special energy of Anti-Magic. The singularity of her power and his mastery of this anti-magical energy have elevated her to the rank of an arcane-level magician despite the fact that he cannot use magic. Asta blends his Anti-Magic with the magic of others to produce more potent spells.

Asta initially had a rigid swordsmanship style due to his unconventional sword. Over time, though, he has developed better skills through battle experience by fighting multiple opponents who used magic swords and witnessing their battles, such as Licht, Yami, Mars, and Kiato. He has also managed to improve his skills with it thanks to additional swords and the perception of ki. In light of that, Asta has become one of the more skilled swordsmen in the series, although he is still not the best one.

On the other hand, Asta lacks mana and is powerless over magic. As a result, he can utilize Anti-Magic without experiencing its crippling consequences because he does not possess the magic strength that he might ever lose. As a result, he is also impervious to the life-sucking substance of the underworld and invisible to those who can detect other people’s mana.

Asta is extremely physically strong and can complete 1,000 push-ups with just one hand. With this power, he can carry large swords in one hand and break through granite walls with just his fists without getting hurt. When Asta uses his swords, his opponents are hit with amazing force, so much so that the rocks break under their feet. The Queen of Witches used her blood magic to strengthen her arms.

William Vengeance suspects Asta of using magic to benefit himself because he can move faster than ordinary. Asta also has exceptional durability, as seen by the fact that he can get to his feet after being repeatedly attacked by Heath Grice. Along with Yami, he manages to escape Licht’s attempted collapse somewhat unhurt. Asta has heightened instincts, which are evident when he unconsciously moves his body to defend himself.

Asta is able to use his skills since he is associated with a demon that possesses anti-magic through the Five-Leaf Clover Grimoire. The more power he actually gets, the more demonic his appearance becomes. Asta strikes a deal with the demon, offering his right arm in return for additional strength. He can counteract the Gravitational Singularity and coat new weapons in anti-magic with this new power boost, but he can only employ it for 50 seconds at a time.

Asta's Demon Form & Powers in Black Clover Explained

Asta learns how to imbue his whole body with this energy in order to achieve a form where the Anti-Magic passes through and covers a portion of his body when the Witch Queen uses her own blood magic to eliminate the restrictions on Asta’s Anti-Magic. He gains more power and speed in this form, which is summoned by powerful magic. Asta is also able to fly now, his mind is cleared of doubts and unimportant thoughts, and his focus and mental clarity are improved.

When Asta’s emotions change, the anti-magic in his body starts to display less stability in the body, and he also covers his right leg and shapes it with his arm. Asta can also go into a berserker phase. Asta is unable to reason or normally talk while clawed, has a third horn growing out of his head, and much of his face covered in anti-magic.

Asta's Demon Form & Powers in Black Clover Explained

After Asta and Liebe train with Gimodelo, they manage to master the demonic assimilation. However, due to their exhaustion, it only lasts for about five minutes. This form greatly increases Asta’s strength to the point that he could easily cut Naamah’s body even after it merges with Lilith, being this a real physical body and not a body of magic like the Majin, also his speed and the ability of his Anti-Magic to such an extent that he can nullify the magic of an entire area.

Asta (Demon Form) compared to other anime characters

In this section, we will compare Asta in his Demon Form to some other prominent anime characters. These will be brief comparisons whose main goal is to give you a general idea of his powers and abilities.

Asta vs. Luffy

As we all know, Luff is the protagonist of One Piece and the series’ potentially most powerful character. He ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which turned him into a rubber man, but it was later revealed that his Devil Fruit actually was the mythical Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, which gave Luffy almost god-like powers and abilities. On top of that, Luffy has managed to activate Gear Five in the meantime.

Asta’s Demon Form is, on the other hand, exceptionally powerful, and he can use powerful Magic, as we have explained. But we don’t think he could beat Luffy in his current state. Namely, Luffy’s abilities are not magic-related, so Asta couldn’t really counter them in any way, and with Luffy having divine powers now, including some truly ridiculous ones, we have to give this one to the future Pirate King. Asta probably would have won if he had fought Luffy earlier in the story.

Asta vs. Naruto

Naruto is the protagonist of the franchise of the same name created by Masashi Kishimoto. He is a Konohagakure shinobi who is the current Hokage. Over the course of the series, Naruto’s powers grow, and at one point, he becomes one of the series’ most powerful characters.

And while he couldn’t defeat Kaguya Otsutsuki by himself, he was close to her power level. Still, recently, Naruto lost Kurama, and with it, a big chunk of his powers disappeared. And while he could parry Asta in physical combat, he wouldn’t know what to do against his magic, which is why we give this to Asta.

Asta vs. Ichigo Kurosaki

Ichigo Kurosaki is the protagonist of Bleach. He is a substitute Shinigami from Karakura Town who holds the powers of both the Shinigami and the Quincy, but also those of Hollows and Fullbringers, making him one of the series’ most powerful characters. Ichigo has been able to defeat Aizen and Yhwach, as well as numerous other characters, and his powers are such that he is specifically equipped for fighting and killing demonic entities.

Asta is, thus, a perfect target for Ichigo in that aspect, and with Ichigo being equipped for such enemies, he would defeat Asta with relative ease, especially since he has defeated characters who could easily destroy the whole Black Clover universe.

Asta vs. Natsu Dragneel

Regarding Natsu Dragneel from the Fairy Tail universe, we have to say that the situation is quite tricky. Natsu and Asta are very similar characters in that aspect, and their respective worlds are also quite similar in many ways. So, who would win? We don’t really know. Knowing their specific powers and abilities, Natsu and Asta can easily be put on the same level, and with that, we can only confirm that we had this one down as a draw, as we couldn’t really determine the more powerful one.

Asta vs. Ken Kaneki

Finally, we picked a very powerful character from the popular Tokyo Ghoul series, as the two worlds share some similarities in terms of the powers and abilities of the characters themselves. We think that Asta would take this one simply because he could use magic to give himself an advantage over Kaneki’s abilities. He could heal himself, and he could use his magical abilities to immobilize Kaneki. Kaneki has more power, but that wouldn’t be much use against magic.
