Kaido vs. Whitebeard: Who Would Win in a Fight?

The Four Emperors (Yonko) in One Piece are among the most powerful characters in the whole franchise and also among the most intriguing ones. Their roster didn’t change much over the years, and they are considered to be a formidable force by practically everyone, rivaling some other major players. In this article, we are going to compare two of the Emperors to determine who the stronger one is and who would win; the characters in question are Kaido and the late Whitebeard.

In his prime, Whitebeard was among the most powerful characters in the whole series. He was a powerhouse captain with a very strong Devil Fruit and he would have defeated Kaido in a direct fight. While Kaido was, indeed, a powerful pirate, he had not dared cross Whitebeard while the latter was alive because he was aware that the late captain would have beaten him without too much trouble.

The rest of this article will further elaborate on the above-given answer, as we are going to compare Kaido and Whitebeard in more detail. Through several categories, you are going to see who the stronger of the two is and why our answer is like it is, i.e., why Whitebeard would, according to our analysis, be able to defeat Kaido in the end.

Physical powers

Due to his muscle mass, Kaido has enormous physical strength. He managed to capsize nine giant prison ships. Kaido is powerful enough that his single scream caused visible damage to the area around him. One of Kaido’s main strengths is his inability to die; indeed, he suffered seven defeats, was captured by the Navy or enemies eighteen times, was tortured over a thousand times and finally, was sentenced to death forty times. However, no execution, whatever it was, worked.

In addition, Kaido jumped 10,000 meters to the ground, sending a powerful shockwave that could have sunk a nearby ship, but he just suffered from a headache; suicide has become a pastime for him. Like Shanks and Edward Newgate, Kaido and Big Mom were able to break the sky in half with with one strike, demonstrating that they were equally as powerful as Charlotte Linlin. Big Mom is yet to be overcome, which is a strong indication of Kaido’s strength.

Whitebeard was known as the strongest man in the world. He had been the strongest for more than twenty years, and despite getting older, his physical strength was still far bigger than a giant’s. He also had immense stamina, which allowed him to survive being stabbed by Squard, hit by Akainu, who used the same weapon Ace used to kill him, a bolt from Kizaru, and innumerable gunshots, cannonballs, and sword slashes from the Marines while still being able to beat the Admiral. When he was at his peak, he was able to engage Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King, in a three-day, three-night hand-to-hand battle.

Despite his failing health, Whitebeard was still considered the strongest and most dangerous pirate in the world, which begs the question of how powerful he must have been in his prime. He could move at considerable speeds, having managed to sneak up on Akainu with the latter only noticing once some soldiers warned him to look behind him. The fact that he launched a surprise attack against the Admiral who had very keen hearing also shows that Whitebeard could be impressively stealthy, despite his gigantic size.

Kaido is a character known as the strongest beast in the world, whereas Whitebeard was known as the world’s strongest person. And while there might be a small difference in their powers and abilities, we ultimately couldn’t determine it objectively, so we have decided to split the points into this category.

Points: Kaido 1, Whitebeard 1

Devil Fruit

Kaido ate the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into an oriental dragon, in the same way as Momonosuke, the main difference being that Kaido has a gigantic size in dragon form and appears to be in control of his transformations.

However, he will be unable to keep up this appearance if he sustains too many strong strikes, such as those Luffy delivered. He can growl loud enough to start lightning, too. The entire island of Onigashima was seen to be able to be lifted by Kaido, and he appears to be able to move it all the way to the Flower Capital.

Whitebeard acquired the ability to slice through the air and anything in his path of attack after consuming the Gura Gura no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit. Then, by being able to grab the air with his fingers and slice very wide regions of land and sea, he could make them shudder and unleash earthquakes and tsunamis. By combining it with his Bisento, he could also use this ability to make cutting attacks. It is also able to resist the freezing of Aokiji thanks to its noisy tremors. Additionally, the Sabaody Archipelago has seen tsunamis thanks to Blackbeard who, after stealing Whitebeard’s powers, never mastered the fruit’s powers and abilities.

Kaido’s dragon Devil Fruit has proven itself to be enormously powerful, but it could do nothing much against the world-shattering Gura Gura no Mi, one of the most powerful Devil Fruits ever. Even Blackbeard, who has an equally powerful Fruit, was afraid of the Gura Gura no Mi, daring to steal it only after Whitebeard was already on the brink of death. That is why Whitebeard wins this point.

Points: Kaido 1, Whitebeard 2

Haki

One of the few individuals who has mastery over all three varieties of Haki is Kaidou. It was demonstrated that Kaidou could command Kenbunshoku Haki by detecting Kozuki Oden’s presence on Enma while Roronoa Zoro was using it. After his and Big Mom’s joint strike, she also utilized it to detect the voices of the supernovae, enabling her to claim that they were still alive.

Like Charlotte Katakuri or Luffy, Kaidou’s control enables her to use it in a sophisticated manner and predict the future. Kaidou’s mastery of the Busoshoku Haki is also exceptional; according to Law, the Royal Haki was too strong for her to be able to move Kaidou into his room straight. He is also able to have skin that is virtually impervious to common attacks because to his Busoshoku Haki.

Kaidou is among of a very small number of people who can use the Haoshoku Haki. Upon colliding with Charlotte Linlin using his Kanabō, they both generated the typical lightning discharge. Kaidou can use the advanced variant of Haoshoku Haki, imbuing his Kanabō with his will, which expels black bolts violently from its end and makes them extend towards his enemies.

All three varieties of Haki were expertly mastered by Whitebeard. His highly developed mastery of Observation Haki is shown in flashbacks with Ace, where Whitebeard was easily able to defeat him while he dozed off. However, during the war at the top, this ability seems to have diminished as Squardo will hit him with an attack that Marco will judge Whitebeard to have easily dodged.

Additionally, it appears that he was able to fit his Armament Haki into his Bisento, giving him the ability to demolish boats or even small settlements. Whitebeard has frequently utilized his Armament Haki against Admirals. Whitebeard was using the Conqueror’s Haki at the time of the Battle of Marineford, according to Fossa. When Newgate and Gol D. Roger clashed while traveling together, they utilized it.

The fact that both of these characters have actually mastered all three types of Haki is impressive, but it is obvious that Whitebeard’s mastery is on a superior level when compared to Kaido’s. Kaido is extremely powerful and skilled, but Whitebeard was even more impressive, and that is why he winst this point as well.

Point: Kaido 1, Whitebeard 3

Weapons

Kaidou uses his Hassaikai, a giant metal Kanabō that is full of spikes and fits his size, when facing his opponents. Along with his immense physical strength, he can use it to crush his opponents and send them great distances and was able to knock Luffy unconscious with a single blow, breaking the enormous defensive power of his enhanced Busoshoku Haki with his Gear Fourth form. With it, he was also able to block Charlotte Linlin’s attack with Napoleon, an extremely powerful sword. Kaidou killed Kozuki Oden using a double-barreled pistol, but it is unknown what has become of this weapon today and if he still has it in his possession.

Edward Newgate’s favorite weapon was his Bisento, a huge Japanese halberd, which he used constantly and called Murakumogiri. Murakumogiri was an exceptionally large weapon that fit Whitebeard’s height of nearly five meters. By concentrating his Haki in his Bisento, Whitebeard can send dozens of opponents flying with a single blow. The Bisento is a wholly fear-inducing weapon in itself, but when it is combined with Whitebeard’s enormous strength and combat talents, it is nearly fatal for everyone. As proof, this one allows him to measure himself against Shanks’ saber, which caused an atmospheric-type tear in the sky during their exchange of blows.

Also, the Bisento is very resilient, as it managed to stop Akainu’s magma attacks without being melted, or a two-handed charge from John Giant without shaking. Whitebeard often used his Bisento alongside his Haki and his Devil Fruit powers in order to deal as much devastating damage with his attacks as possible or even to injure Logia-type Devil Fruit users, which is exceptionally difficult to do.

There is no doubt that Whitebeard is a much more skilled user of his weapon than Kaido ever was. Whitebeard was one of the best swordsmen in the whole series and that is why this final point undoubtedly goes to him.

Kaido vs. Whitebeard: Who would win?

And now for the most important and interesting section of our article – the analysis. Here, we are going to use what we have found out about these two characters and analyze how all these facts would (or would not) help them in a fight against each other. Let us continue.

In all honesty, this wasn’t a real debate at any point. Sure, if you listen to the internet trolls, Whitebeard would lose because he’s dead and thus cannot fight Kaido; but, Kaido’s fate is also unknown at the time, although he’s probably alive, since we never saw him die. But, from an objective standpoint, we’ve seen Kaido at his best, whereas Whitebeard’s peak is a legendary story in itself.

The only category where Kaido could actually come close to Whitebeard is raw strength, but we honestly think that Whitebeard is a bit stronger, although we didn’t want to split atoms here because it would be impossible to properly compare their strengths. In all other aspects, Whitebeard is absolutely superior, which is evidenced by the fact that Kaido never actually went against Whitebeard at any point and even Whitebeard, who is vile and evil, only attacked him when he was already down and used Whitebeard’s weak state to defeat him. Under any other circumstances, Whitebeard would’ve defeated him despite his old age and his declining health.

Whitebeard’s Gura Gura no Mi is one of the most powerful Devil Fruits in existence as it can shatter whole continents because of its enormous strength. On top of that, Whitebeard is a more skilled and dangerous Haki user than Kaido, although they both mastered all three types of Haki. Ultimately, it is a well-known fact that Whitebeard is more proficient with weapons than Kaido, who relied mostly on his raw strength in battle.

When you add all of these facts together, it is clear why Whitebeard is so much more powerful and why this duel wasn’t really much of a debate. Whitebeard is clearly the stronger of the two, as the numbers reflect, and we have absolutely no doubt that had the two of them fought, that Whitebeard would’ve been the winner. Still, this clash would’ve been one of the most epic ones in the series.
